The perfect balance of fruit and citrus. The first time I made this desert I followed the instructions to the T and I felt that it was excellent however just a little to sweet for my taste. The second time I put 1/4 cup brown sugar in the total recipe and it was perfect. There is enough sweetness coming from the orange juice and the fruit itself that the recipe does not need any additional sugar. Thsi was a crowd pleaser and a definite keeper.

What a compliment to have your husband brag to others about the dessert you made. To my husband's surprise, his friend's wife saw the same show as me, and made the same crisp. He loved it also! I accidentally left it in the oven 30 minutes extra, if anything it just softened the fruit more and it was still excellent.

We love this recipe so much, especially on a cool night--it hits the spot! The only change I made was to cut the apples in smaller chunks so that they won't be as crispy (a personal preference at this house. Other than that, the topping is SUPER and enhances the flavors of the fruit mixture. Thank you, Ina, this crisp is the best I've eaten anywhere!

The best crisp I have ever made, and I have tried alot of recipes. I don't think I need to try anymore. Everything about it came out perfect. Nice crunchy topping. Nice texture to the filling. I think the zest and juices add alot to this recipe. I have never seen Macoun apples before. I used 3 large Granny Smiths, 2 Johnagolds and a Pink Lady. My pears where 2 Bartlets and 2 huge red d'Anjou pears that where ripening in my kitchen for the last week. Half of my apple and pears where sliced thin so they would cook down smooth. The other half I left in large chunks to add texture. I think the mixture of fruits worked out great. My topping was made in my food procesor, adding oatmeal last just to mix in. These where storage apples and pears from the store. Can't wait to try it with home grown fruit.

This was excellent! I made it just as written and have no complaints. Not sure about the review of too much citrus, the blending of flavors was balanced just so no individual flavor "stepped out front" Just lovely and I will make it again!

This was not only delicious but easy to make. The orange and lemon flavors added such a fresh taste and blended so well with the apples and pears. Couldn't find the Macoun apples so used Gala and it was great. Next time I'll try cutting the apples in slightly smaller chunks and using more pears that apples to see how that turns out. I saw a similar Ina recipe that uses dried cranberries and think that would add even more to the recipe. Can't wait till the next potluck at work to try it out on the some my best critics!

This is an awesome dessert!!! I love the pear and apple taste together! I had to add ice cream on top and boy did that work out great! I didn't use the certain apples and pears that she had used. I just got apples that were on sale at the grocery store, I believe they were Fuji and regular pears that weren't so expensive. Having the pears nice and soft before you make the dish is important so if you got hard pears, be patient and wait!!!

I enjoyed the crust but i definitely didnt like the whole citrus taste.. If you're not a orange person i would advise you to leave it out.. Other than that everything was great.. Next time because i know there will be a next time i will be sure to LEAVE out the orange and lemon along with their zest.. : (
