I was very pleased with the way these turned out. Better than buying them at the bakery. I would recommend cutting the apples a little smaller than indicated in order to more easily encase them in the pastry, but other than that, the recipe is a winner.

Made these once for poker night dessert and they have made repeat appearances by unanimous request many times. Trust me, I know we all want to go green, but definitely use the parchment paper. Tried it once without, they still turned out fine but a couple broke during removal. Using the parchment allows the turnovers to come off the pan for a perfect presentation and better yet makes cleanup a breeze rather than a science fair project. Have tried the exact recipe with bosch pears and it was equally tasty. I use a wee bit less of both the orange zest and juice, it needs to be in there but my first batch seemed just a tad too much on the citrus side. Make this, you won't be sorry.

This recipe is very easy, visually impressive, and tasty. I think they should rate it as easy, instead of intermediate.

Also, the puff pastry looked like a mess after I filled each turnover (I should have followed Ina's directions more carefully, but by some miracle, they came out of the oven looking perfect--I was sure I'd have an ugly mess on my hands and considered dumping in the trash. The puff pastry is very forgiving and seemed to expand to cover every flaw. Great with ice cream after dinner or at room temp for a morning pastry.

The whole family, and dinner guests, gobbled them up. I did increase the apple mixture to 2/3 c. We served with whip cream - yummy yummy!

This was so easy to make. Could easily substitute raisins, cranberries, or dried blueberries for the cherries. I had everything on hand, and my husband thought they were great.

These apple turnovers are so wonderful..
If you have any left over apple mixture which I do every time.. Cook it down and make an applesauce.. pour the applesauce over the turnovers and some vanilla ice cream and it's a bit of heaven... Everyone I make them for loves them..
    Thanks Ina, another awesome recipe

(throw some chopped pecans in also.. Yum

Recipe was easy to follow... tasted so much better than store bought. Leftovers can be warmed up in the microwave and add a scoop of vanilla icecream..awesome!
