    This cake sinks in the middle. I am an experienced baker and this has happened both times I have made it. I even used a different oven the second time and added the coffee at room temperature instead of "hot". The flavor is good but the chemistry of this recipe is off and sinking in the middle is unacceptable. Won't be making this again!

    This is my favourite chocolate cake recipe. Always use it! I love that it is moist, light, dark and tasty. Just have one problem, they alway sink in the middle. May someone pls help me understand why. I don't open the oven while it bakes.

    This is the tastiest cake I've ever made. It came out moist and delicious. Even after the first day it was still moist. This has become my base recipe for other cake flavors.

    This cake is what I was looking for for the longest time. I make this all the time and every time it came out to be perfect. I don't even make the frosting becuase we eat it right away. I will make this for my son's birthday this year and not bother buying a cake, becuase they don't come close to this one. highly recomended.

    Awesome cake. Making it today for the second time. EVERYONE loved it the first time. Wife and kids rave about it. Can't believe how easy it is to make and success is guaranteed.

    This is THE ONE! Absolutely perfect. If you enjoy chocolate cake (I know, who doesn't, this is a mighty delicious cake, and the frosting is beyond compare. Enjoy!

    This cake is absolutely perfect. I have made it three times now, once as cupcakes and twice as cake. It is delicious and the frosting is possibly better than the cake. Coffee truly brings out the flavor of chocolate! I think I will make it again today...

    I'm sorry but this cake did not turn out the way I wanted it. It was dense and dry. I don't know what went wrong, I followed the recipe to the "T". However, the frosting was delicious.

    I've never left a review before but I just had to sign up so I could leave a review on this recipe. Thank you soooo much Ina!!! I love baking birthday cakes for my kids but I am never satisfied with my recipes. I wanted to have a staple recipe I always used but never found the right one. The search is over! This IS my new forever chocolate cake recipe! And the bonus? It was the easiest batter I've ever made! My daughter told me this was the very best cupcake I've ever made (and I bake a lot! This time I actually made 30 cupcakes but next time I will make a cake with it. I used Hershey's chocolate and it still was fantastic! If anyone has any other cocoa recommendations I'd love to hear, but I had it in my pantry and it was great! I topped this with a light vanilla whipped cream frosting and it was the perfect pairing with the deep chocolate flavor. Oh, and instead of buttermilk I used whole milk mixed with 1 T lemon juice. Worked like a charm!
