this is a wonderful recipe, i have made this cake 6 times and it always works and i am very pleased with the results. only i dont use the frosting cause i think it really is too sweet but i use heavy cream and a bit of powder sugar and it works well. but try it ... you will be glad that you did.

The cake was very easy to make. The taste was heavenly. I made it as a sheet cake and it was perfect, no high points or low points, just a lovely cake! Tasted perfect! I wish Ina was my neighbor, because I am sure we would be bff!!! I did, however, reduce the butter a little so that it wouldn't be so heavy. Just a wee bit.

I really loved the cake. The frosting was too sweet so I edited it. I used more butter and less sugar to taste and even added a pinch of salt, sounds weird but tasted good. Make sure the cakes are cool before you stack or frost otherwise you will have a buttery mess. It was good but so is buying a cake.

This is delicious...no it is not light and airy, but rich like pound cake. Is that bad? And the frosting is a little sweet, but hey, it was designed for a kid's party. I made this for my stepdaughter's 12th birthday party. She is not a "pink" girl. So we left the frosting un-dyed and decorated with M&M's instead Also to have a contrast in the layers, I split them and filled them with a simple chocolate icing (from the back of the Hershey's cocoa box I also left out the lemon zest since I was adding chocolate and wasn't sure it would taste right, although I wonder if orange zest might have been nice(?

Anyway, thank you, Ina, for a fun recipe...I've been dying to try this cake for a couple of years now and was glad to finally have the chance. You can always experiment and make a recipe your own. (for example, less sugar would not hurt the icing :

I loved the cake but used a different recipe for the icing. The cake was moist and dense like a pound cake but that's how I like them. I will definitely used this recipe again.

This cake is great. I made it without the hot pink food coloring and the candies and it was just delicious. The cake was super moist and the frosting went well with it.

I was excited to try this recipe for my daughter's 13th birthday. It had a great WOW factor because it was very pretty. However, when I served the cake it was very heavy and dense and the frosting was crusty. Overall, I was disappinted with the recipe as were my guests. The cake had good flavor but was more of a pound cake than a birthday cake.
