    This cake looks darling but the cake lacks in flavor. The cake is very dense like pound cake not light and airy as you would expect birthday cake to be. The frosting is beautiful in color but has a strong "red dye" flavor not sweet and buttery. My daughter and I made this cake for her 9th birthday "kids" party. We had fun making it and the girls at the party had a ball decorating the cake with a variety of candies. The cake was fun but I won't be making this recipe again but I would use the idea of the layers and candy decorations.

    I made this cake for my little sister's 5th birthday. She loved it! She and her friends had a great time decorating, and I taught one of the girl's older sister how to pipe. It was a great time!
    The cake was delicious and rich, and not that hard to make!

    When i first saw Ina prepare the cake,i knew i had to try it. It is a great recipe,that you can not go wrong,she gives details and the ingrdients are very accurate. This is a recipe you can count on to work!(like all Ina s recipes
    What suprised me was the incredible,mouthwatering taste.
    It looks professional and it tastes even better!My only advice would be to cut the cakes with presicion to make them really even for frosting,cause if you dont,it may look a little crooked when it s all done.I made it for my wedding anniversary and my husband was in awe! Everybody loved it,and it wasnt even that hard to make.You can be so creative with this cake and have fun making it!I used all kinds of pink and purple candy to decorate it,it was beautiful. Thank you Ina for this recipe,your recipes always work,please keep giving us more!!!

    I made this for my son's b-day, so I changed the icing to green instead of pink. It was a very good cake - dense like a pound cake. I loved the hint of lemon, next time I may split open the layers and spread a thin layer of store-bought lemon curd. The crowd at my party ooohed and aahed when I brought it out!
