I had to change a few things as I did not have a few items on hand. Replaced cider vinegar with sherry vinegar, toasted pecans instead of walnuts and gorganzola instead of blue cheese. I also added chicken....the combination of apples, cranberries, bacon and cheese with the dressing is amazing. Super easy and super yummy!

I served this salad, at dinner with friends, last night. It was a hit with everyone. It was easy and delicious, I didn't change a thing. Thanks, Ina, for another great recipe. I served it with Salmon Croquettes and for dessert, Ice Cream with Amerettto drizzled on top. Yummy!

I saw this while working out at the gym on the Food Network channel (love new technology. On the way home, I went by the store picked up the ingredients, but I sustituted Spring Mix. I made it that evening, so easy. My husband said it was the best salad he had ever had!!! I made again the next day for a family gathering and everyone loved it. I am leary of blue cheese, because it can be very strong. I bought the milder blue cheese as suggested and did not over use it and it was a perfect combination. I have made it 4 times in the last 2 1/2 weeks upon my husband's request with his steak on the grill.

Someone commented they "took a lot of time" preparing for the final mix & I have to ask why? The dressing takes probably 2 min to whip together, the arugula comes in a bag already washed, the dried cranberries are in a bag, you can chop the apple while cooking the bacon (which takes about 6-7 min & toasting the walnuts. Toss everything into a big bowl and VIOLA!, you have a salad. I also have to ask how BACON can be "unnecessary" not add something to the salad?!?! HELLO - it's BACON!! It's smoky, it's salty, it's crispy...it must add some kind of extra somethin'-somethin' to ANY salad :
I will say this...I also find bleu cheese to be overpowering on certain things so I will definitely substitute gorgonzola in this recipe.
I haven't made this yet, but I KNOW it's gonna be good, so I will go ahead & give if 5 stars. If it turns out to be YUK, I will post a separate review.

I'm not a blue cheese fan, so I substituted a good cheddar in its place. It was absolutely one of the best salads I've ever made. My friends loved it as well!

YOU KNOW WHEN YOU WATCH A FNN SHOW OR EVEN READ A RECIPE AND YOU JUST KNOW THAT IT WILL BE GOOD...WELL HERE'S ONE THAT I KNEW WOULD BE GOOD...WHAT I DIDN'T KNOW WAS HOW GOOD!
COMBINATION OF THE FRENCH CHEESE, TOASTED WALNUTS, CRISPY APPLEWOOD SMOKED BACON, AND (TRY ORGANIC DRIED CRANBERRIES AND (TRY ORGANIC GRANNY SMITH APPLE IS A MEDLEY OF SWEET, SMOKY, CREAMY AND CRUNCHY.
THEN THE DRESSING ...WOW AND DOUBLE WOW. ALTHOUGH THERE IS ORANGE ZEST AND JUICE AND DIJON ETC...NOTHING STANDS OUT..EVERYTHING JUST MELDS TOGETHER AND THERE IS THE MOST WONDERFUL 'HINT' OF FLAVORS THAT IS PERFECT WITH THE SALAD.
    ABSOLUTELY SCRUMPTIOUS.
    A NEW FAVORITE FROM INA

I am not overly fond of arugula, so I used a mix of half arugula half romaine. Couldn't find a blue cheese and used garganzola instead. It was absolutely wonderful. Had guests for dinner and they were impressed. Would make it again and think the dressing could be used in other salads as well. Thank you.

I loved this sald! I loved the dressing. I did add more syrup because I like my salad dressing sweeter but I would definitely make this salad for company.

I didn't have bleu cheese, apple, or bacon so I substituted goat cheese and a diced Asian pear (didn't bother trying to find something to replace the bacon. This substitution for the bleu cheese and apple was also quite good. If you don't have an Asian pear, a regular pear would work just as well. The dressing was really easy to make and very tasty on the arugula. I will probably use the dressing recipe for lots of other salads.
