Easy to make and a terrific accompaniment to beef or chicken--or really anything else! Tasty, savory, low maintenance. Choose smaller, uniformly sized shallots and the dish becomes a simple yet elegant addition to a company menu.

In one word..AMAZING!!! Serve it with your favorite roast! Makes it extra-special. I served with my rib roast and elegant mashed potatoes. Melt in your mouth! Thank you Ina!

These are just incredible. I always make them for my BIL's prime rib, and today I'm making them with Hot and Sweet Pork Tenderloin, along with roasted carrots.

Ina usually hits it out of the park....but not this time. Unless I really messed the recipe up...these were not a hit for our house. It was a lot of money for the shallots for a result that was not that great.

I will be making this often as I have LOTS of shallots. They are very easy to grow. I'm still using shallots I grew in 2009 and I harvested a cubic foot (milk crate full of them this year. They don't take much space and you get lots.
They are definitely worth it and recipes like this one are good enough reason to grow your own.

Ina's carmelized shallots are amazing. I literally make them for every holiday or dinner party and there are never any leftovers. Everyone loves them. I highly recommend you try them!

Served these for a dinner party and got raves and raves and raves. I'm going to try thise with cippolini onions next time. Should work just as well.

I halved the recipe because I was only making enough for two people. I made these with steak and it was out of this world. Before this recipe I was unfamiliar with shallots but I will make this again and again!

I was visiting with my guests while I fixed this for the first time and forgot to add both the vinegar and the parsley, but the dish was still out of this world. Every bite was devoured. The richness of the sauce was amazing--this recipe will be one of my standards from now on. I served it with mashed potatoes and that was a perfect pairing. The dish was expensive, though, with the price of shallots $5.00/pound, so for everyday meals I'll try it with onions.
