    I liked this dish very much. Found the bread at Trader Joe's. My children loved it too. I will be making it again in the morning.

    I've been making French toast for years, but without a recipe. I am so glad I tried Ina's. I had never soaked the bread in the egg/mix mixture for a full 5 minutes. What a difference that made, the French toast was very light, but yet custardy. The addition of honey and orange zest imparts an added layer of flavor. Definitely will be using this recipe from now on.

    My husband and I enjoyed this recipe. I used 2% milk; added cinnamon and nutmeg to the ingredients; and used a fresh orange for the grated orange zest and squeezed a little orange juice in the egg mixture. I also suggest using your best judgment when soaking the bread in the egg mixture -- the thicker the bread, the longer it should soak in the mixture.

    Made this for my husband this morning for fathers day. It was a hit! It was so delicious! We loved the addition of the orange zest, very very yummy! I just had large eggs, so I added 1 more to the custard mix, but followed everything else.

    Soooo tasty & comforting! I reduced the recipe & everything tasted great. I used 2 large eggs, 1/4 c lowfat milk, 3 slices of Cinnabon cinnamon bread, & half of everything else listed. I also added 1/2 tsp of cinnamon & a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg. I dipped both sides of bread in the mixture & cooked in butter. I also carmalized a ripe banana along side in the pan. This french toast deserves only pure maple syrup. The flavors are wonderful.: Thanks Ina

    Soaking the challah for 5 minutes made this dish really dense for me. I was able to get a nice browning on the outside, but it was so wet on the inside that it still came out squishy, for a lack of a better term. Probably won't make again, or would try just dipping it briefly.

    I've made this several times, sometimes substituting brioche for challah. I've made it on gas stove tops and electric stove tops, and it comes out amazing each time. Everyone always loves it (especially me, and it's become an Easter morning tradition! :

    This is my favorite bread for french toast. I tried brioche and day old french bread. The brioche was just OK because it was still too airy and soft. The french bread isn't big enough. This was perfect, I served it to my husband with sweet potato hashbrowns and eggs. He loved it!

    Yummy! I actually made this for myself this morning. I bought challah bread from Trader Joes - individual challah rolls so I only used one roll and sliced it up into three pieces. I used one egg and 1/4 cup of half and half ... some honey, orange zest, and vanilla extract. It made the perfect amount of custard for the individual roll. This was enough for one person for breakfast which is great since my husband does not eat french toast. I will definitely make this for company using the entire recipe.
