I'm giving this 3 stars (not the usual 5 I give Ina's food because the taste was great BUT I had to make some changes. We could not find either of those specialty breads anywhere so I had to use regular French loaf. I live in a large city so I'm not sure where exactly one would find those breads. Also, we used less milk than called for, and we only soaked the slices about 30 seconds (I think longer would have made them soggy. I'm not sure if that's because we didn't have the right bread, but again, I couldn't find it! I guess what it boils down to is we made regular french toast. I still LOVE this show (Barefoot is my favorite on the FN but I wish she would use ingredients that weren't so hard to find (and less expensive. Some of her dishes use very pricey ingredients that aren't practical for a lot of people!

Perfect start to the day. Plenty of fresh fruit goes well with this recipe.

This recipe was easy to follow. The only thing that I was not able to find was the bread.

The custard is the perfect proportion to the bread, and yields the perfect slice -- crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside. The honey and orange provide just the right tangy sweetness, and keep the flavor bright.

This challah french toast tasted great but please be careful-soaking the first batch of challah for 5 minutes was overkill - it was so wet that when I picked it up to place on the grill pan, it fell apart, then took longer than 2-3 minutes each side to cook since it was still damp in the middle. Overall, it looked and tasted great and I will definitely make it again.
