This recipe is amazing. The first time I made it, I didn't have turmeric and left it out. It was so divine that I have made it that way since. I quarter the recipe to make at home, and it makes enough for two or three servings for me and my fiance. It's a very big recipe. It can be easily lightened up with more olive oil or less (or no bacon grease. And if you mix milk and a tsp of cornstarch (per cup milk you can sub out the half & half and it will still get creamy.

Very bland - not good at all.

This chowder is one of our favorites. If made properly with good ingredients this soup comes out almost perfect.

I changed some things about this recipe just to make it more like a "chowder" instead of a soup.

    1. Decrease chicken stock to 6 cups and add 2-3 chicken bullion cubes instead.

    2. Add a quart and a 1/2 of Half and Half instead of the 2 cups of Half and Half.

    3. Double the Salt and Pepper and double the flour

    4. 1lb bacon with almost all fat removed.

Make it this way and it's perfect!

Loved it. I did make some substitutions (milk and a little leftover creamed corn insteat of half-n-half. The tumeric was a little different but still good. I will definitely make this again! I also took out a couple cups at the end, pureed it in the blender and added back to the pot for a thicker soup.

I would cut the onions and the fat a little, but it's an excellent recipe! If you don't have the turmeric, don't buy it just for this recipe. It tastes fine without it! Be careful not to overcook the bacon, or you can eliminate it entirely and make it strictly vegetarian. There is a lot of prep work unless you buy the ingredients already prepped, especially if you are using fresh corn on the cob, so do that ahead of time and it's much easier to assemble!

Holy moley. The BEST corn chowder. Lots of flavor. Used grilled sweet corn from Indiana, and it added a slightly charred/smokey flavor. Not a fan of tumeric, so I omitted it. Fantastic!! Will absolutely make again.

I am confused about the really good reviews of this recipe. I am thinking my area either has very low quality ingredients, or people have not had Panera's corn chowder before. I read the recipe over and over, wondering what ingredient I missed or what I did wrong but I promise I followed it exactly.

I agree with the person who said that this was very bland. Even with the bacon fat, it lacked flavor. The tumeric added a very interesting flavor- and not a good interesting. I would use thyme in the future. I would actually probably just use a different recipe in the future. Sorry, Ina. Actually you should be sorry that I have a huge stock pot full of stuff I don't want to eat.

I've tried many corn chowder recipes and this is by far the BEST! I love the cheddar and bacon flavors. This recipe makes 6 quarts so I add crab meat to 3 quarts and make crab & corn chowder. My family can't get enough of either one. Thank you Ina!

This recipe was great! I can't get enough corn chowder! Instead of using the turmeric, I used a small amount of thyme. Delicious with some oyster crackers and bacon on top!

Very Tasty! I cut the recipe in 1/2 - and it was plenty for four! I used sweet potato in lieu of white potato and I roasted fresh corn on the grill for 5/10 minutes. It was delicious!
