Loved the idea. It was a hit. I put three cheese balls already made up, on top of romain lettuce leaves then i used red and gree grapes scattered throuh the gaps, put the crackers along the outer rim. Had two pretty wine bottles next to it, with some grapes around that. Everybody loved it!!! Great hit for me, thank you

Very helpful suggestions, particularly for someone who hasn't done this sort of thing before. If you don't have a local cheese shop, go to the grocery store and look around...you will find a variety of ingredients that you can use to make a tasty and attractive presentation. Ina's simple nonthreatening approach to this is much appreciated.

Are these previous comments a joke?... People should not give Ina a low rating on this recipe just because their home town does not have good quality ingredients.
I put this cheese platter myself and it was great! I guess I'm fortunate I live in LA and we have a variety of stores that offer amazing high quality ingredients.
Thanks Ina!!!

Do you have any suggestions for the best platter shops?

I'm a bit stuck with this recipe. I live in a small town, so I don't have many options for buying cheese. I only have the corner market. It must have started as a cheese shop (no Brie, so they know their stuff!, but they have expanded to have other offerings such as alcoholic beverages and gasoline. I bought some cheese that is assured to be "ready to eat." It is a very soft cheese, so I'm not sure how to serve it - do I spray it directly on the serving platter, or do I let guests spray it themselves?

Upon extensive searching for a good cheese shop, who would've thought that the best cheese shop in my area is at my local funeral home! Wow! They vast array of cheeses had my head spinning...what to choose?? After various tastings, I decided on the mortis mozzarella, bereaved brie, and the local favorite, coroner camembert. The mozzarella has an ammoniated smell, but maybe noone will notice. They have metal trays available also...I'm so lucky! Will this work for cheese? I didn't have any garnish, so I picked some leaves from their walnut trees outside. The added plus is that the leaves glow in the dark making a lovely display for my evening dinner party. Thank you, Ina!

I'm not quite sure what the "best" cheese shop is. Here in the trailer park area I'm slightly limited so I had to create my own. Everyone at the party seemed to enjoy what I put together.
I used some Kraft singles and laid them in a circle on a trash can lid - it was the flattest thing I could find. I sprayed a mound of cheddar spray cheese in the middle and then spread a row of saltines and Wonder bread along the side. I didn't have any cheese knives so I just used a rusty butter knife.
To garnish, I scattered pine cones, ivy and dingleberries to create a visual focal point. The ivy might have been poison ivy but no one should have been eating the garnish anyway. It was too pretty not to include it and really made this platter classy.

Ina and I must have some sort of subconscious telepathic communication, because I’ve made cheese platters several times before seeing this “recipe”. How else would that be possible?! The only difference is, I sometimes use sliced meat on my cheese and crackers. Is this alright, or am I masking the delicacy of the cheese? If not, should I put the meat under, or on top of the cheese? Ina don’t fail me now. I’ll be waiting for your communication while I’m sleeping.

Our small town doesn't have a cheese shop, let alone a 'good cheese shop'. But we do have a nifty Spur gas station. Since they didn't have any blocks of cheese, I bought some sliced-variety--American, Swiss, Jack and, just to add a little surprise, some bologne. I matched up the edges, and cut it into triangles. From the side they looked like rainbows. I wrote 'cheese platter' on a paper plate with a magic marker. My friends were amazed and I'm the belle-of-the-hollow now. Thanks Ina, you're my HERO!
