I watched the show and then made this. I noticed that on the show she added chicken stock to the pot with the wine and cognac so when I made it I added two cups of chicken stock to the recipe. Chicken stock isn't listed in the ingredients here on the site(in error I belive.I also cooked this about 45 to 60 minutes till the garlic is totally melted into the sauce, meaning you will no longer see any of the cloves. This was so flavorful and just delicious. My local liquor store had the little cognac bottles you get on airplanes so if you don't have any on hand ,check there. Excellent recipe that I will be making again soon. I think I am going to use just chicken thighs next time as they were the most tender and flavorful.

    Hello Primesha,
Obviously your taste in food is as nasty as your name. How can you review rate a recipe when you haven't even attempted to make it? Obviously you should keep your arrogant opinions to your self, unless you have actually TRIED the recipe. You don't have the right to rate it otherwise. Me on the other hand love this recipe! You're awesome Ina!

This recipe was excellent, but I am not surprised, anything Ina does has flavor and class.

This was fantastic! Although it took more than a half hour to cook, it was delicious. The garlic was not overpowering, and the sauce was extremely flavorful. And, for the reviewer who didn't even try out the recipe, please don't review it if you haven't tried it- if you had, you would have seen that your review was completely false.

This recipe should be called FORTY CLOVES OF GARLIC WITH CHICKEN! I didn't even attempt to try and cook it. It just sounds like it has no flavor at all. Come on ya'll... garlic, basic salt&pepper with flour? That doesn't even sound the least tempting unless the recipe was called "How to Make Fried Chicken." Contessa, YOU NEED TO SIT DOWN WITH THAT RECIPE. You usually put too much ingredients in your dishes. This time you just put too much of one ingredient in your dish (GARLIC. I know garlic is popular in the cooking world right about now...but let's not get too ridiculous with the recipies.

My mother and I made this together. She and I were both expecting this recipe to be extremely good, but found it to be surprisingly lacking in flavor. The ingredients sounded so promising. We added extra salt near the end thinking this might make the difference, but it still needed help. We ended up taking the meat off the bones and making a gravy from a chicken stock we had on hand in the freezer. We put the Contessa's chicken into our new gravy and then put this over rice. This was good. The next morning we made wonderful omeletts with the chicken and our gravy. That was also very tasty. I'm sorry Contessa, but this time the recipe sounded more delicious than it actually was. Good try though.

Chicken was fantastic! Everyone loved it! I did tone the flavor down a bit though by only using one head of garlic. I cut the cloves in half. I only used one cup of wine and added about 1 1/2 cups of chicken broth. My family likes a lot of sauce. I didn't have any thyme so I used dry italian seasoning. Worked great. I will definately make this again.

I love, love, love this recipe! I made this for a dinner party and took my time (to make sure the garlic lost its rawness, and everyone loved it!! Five of the guests called the next day to ask for the recipe! The other user who reported the heartburn might have not followed the directions so that the garlic was still raw? Anyway give this one a try!

It looks good, smells good but the after effects make it a loser. The garlic just overpowers everything, and last with you for hours after the meal, effecting everything including sleep from the heartburn. I dont recommend making this one, maybe with alot less garlic and more fresh herbs this could be a winner.
