I really loved both the cupcakes and the frosting, especially the frosting. I love Ina's coconut cupcakes with cream cheese frosting and I was expecting the same cupcake to frosting ratio as that recipe. However, with the peanut butter frosting, I didn't think there was as much as with the cream cheese frostiing. Since I LOVED the peanut butter frosting, I'm going to 1 and a 1/2 the frosting next time so that I have more.

This a very easy recipe to follow and the results are amazing. The coffee really does bring out the taste of chocolate and the peanut butter frosting is light and provides a terrific complement to the moist chocolate cupcakes. I did opt to use chopped peanuts and the chrunchy texture is a nice finish to the smooth frosting and moist cupcakes. I made them for my husband's birthday yesterday and he e-mailed me this morning to say he can't wait to have another one. I will definitely make this recipe again.

I've made quite a few of Barefoot Contessa's desserts and have never been disappointed. I made this today for my son's birthday and it was a hit! But instead of making the cake into cupcakes he asked for a sheet cake, so I baked it in a 9X13 baking dish for 35 minutes and it came out perfect. The cake has a delicious chocolate flavor, I think the coffee really does bring out the chocolate flavor, and it's very moist. The peanut butter icing tops it perfectly. It is sophisticated enough for adults, yet makes you feel like a kid when you taste it! Great recipe! Thank you Ms. Garten.

After following the recipe exactly, I found that the texture of these cupcakes was a bit to "mealy". I prefer a more dense crumb. These were more like a boxed cupcake mix. Ina's recipes are usually so good - I was upset to find that this one did not live up to her normal standards.

This is a terrific basic recipe for chocolate cupcakes: flavorful, light, with a very nice texture. The icing was another story. I think Larry Hayden's (former pastry chef at Union Square Cafe and Barefoot Contessachocolate buttercream, or Ina's butter/creamcheese frosting, would be better choices.

This is wonderful, the cupcakes are so moist and it is the best peanut butter icing I have ever had. I will definately make this again.

Ina gets it right again! These cupcakes are fabulous! The cake is light and chocolately. The frosting is smooth and creamy. The combination makes this a truly scrupmtious cupcake. They are perfect for a chocolate craving.

The cupcakes were very good-clearly better than a mix because of the intense chocolate flavor (the coffee bumps it up. My family really liked them but since chocolate/peanut butter is my main food group I think I may have expected too much. The cake was dense and the frosting fluffy-maybe the frosting would've been better in the center and frosted w/ chocolate frosting.

I made these cupcakes, along with Ina's flower cupcakes, for a birthday party this past weekend. They were wonderful! I did not make the peanut butter frosting for them; using instead Ina's cream cheese/butter frosting. It worked really well with both kinds of cupcakes. I followed the recipe as it was written and it made 24 cupcakes. They were moist, deliciously fudgy, without being too much, and everyone loved them! Most people at the party ate 2 cupcakes. 1 person even ate 4! The batter is thicker than "normal" cake batter, which made it so easy to put into the cupcake paper lined muffin tins. Using the ice cream scoop for portioning worked great. All the cupcakes were the same size. I am someone who prefers to make things from scratch and appreciates a good "homemade" recipe, rather than a dressed up boxed mix. I have had great success with all of Ina's recipes that I have tried. These chocolate cupcakes, as well as the flower cupcakes (which are like a yellow cake are my new go-to recipes for cakes/cupcakes. We are expecting company again next weekend, and I will be making the chocolate cupcakes again, this time with the peanut butter frosting. Can't hardly wait to try them! Chocolate and peanut butter are my fave flavor combo! Keep up the good work, Ina!
