should have followed my instincts. Not a great recipe. Too dense and too chocolate.

"That's nasty!" cried my 3 year old. "Mom, what can i do to get that taste out of my mouth?" asked my 8 year old. My husband tried a bite and said he could not even attempt to eat that ever. I was not quite as critical. I am a true chocolate lover and this was even too rich for me, and I thought that word never applied to me. The cake was exremely dense, but was very moist. This isn't really a cupcake at all. For me, the ganache was bitter and something about this whole combination left a weird taste in my mouth even though I took another reviewers suggestion and made home made chocolate syrup. This bombed at our house.
URGENT UPDATE - We all tried these when still warm and not completely cool. I tried one the next day and it was amazing after it had cooled and set up good. Weird taste gone, and the richness was severely less. So my advice is wait until completely cool to eat :

I'm not much of a baker, but these cupcakes are to die for. Dense and decadent.

The cupcakes turned out great. I had alot of batter left, so I was able to make an additional 10 mini cupcakes. The mini ones only needed about 18 minutes to cook. These are definitely for chocolate lovers, which I am, so I liked the way they turned out.

A few things. These cupcakes are very heavy & moist. They take a full 30 minutes to bake. The center of the cupcakes were slightly caved in due to my taking them out at 29 minutes. Probably could have used about 32 minutes, really. They are a tad bitter, I omitted the coffee, added some good vanilla paste, thinking it may offset the bitter taste of the semi-sweet chips, but it didn't. They were almost sticky and chewy; which I rather liked. I can see why others didn't, if they were expecting a light & fluffy cupcake. I will make them again, cook them longer, and use milk chocolate instead. All in all, a different texture but a nice change. And P.S. Good luck finding the can of Hershey's syrup. I looked at 3 stores and just used the bottle instead~

These aren't your typical cupcakes, they are dense, decadent and delicious! If you're a true chocoholic like myself these are off the hook!! Thanks Ina, another winner. :-

I made these today and I was dissapointed. The cupcakes were very moist and looked yummy but they were a bit too bitter for me. The syrup is to blame! I agree with the other reviews that said the cupcakes had an off taste. The ganache came out good and did a favor to the cupcakes! I won't be making these again..

I did not like these at all. I guess I should have been tipped off by the fact that the chocolate component of the cake recipe is Hershey's Chocolate syrup. The cupcakes were very moist, but everyone agreed they had a strange "off" taste due to the Hershey's syrup. Very dissapointed.

One of my kids said awesome, another said amazing but everyone else was not that excited about them. I will try them again just to make sure I didn't mess anything up. I don't think I over mixed but they did seem tough to me. Thanks Ina
