I am so deeply dispointed since I enjoy Ina's recipes and shows but this recipe was a disaster! I am making food for my church's bake sale and after making wonderful truffles by her recipe I assumed this would work well. I now have 12 inedible greasy chocolate lumps in cupcake liners that I would,t give a dog. If I made an error I apologize but I was alarmed at the ratios when I made them and I followed them precisely.

I gave this recipe two stars because I did not like their taste. They were a little too sweet for me, and the actual cupcake did not have the chocolatey flavor I was looking for. I do agree with Ina in regards to the coffee. The coffee does give the chocolate a nice flavor, but, I just couldn't move passed the taste of the chocolate syrup. The ganache frosting is absolutely delicious. I would definitely make the frosting again, but, would stick to a more traditional chocolate cupcake recipe.
Happy Cooking!

Delicious. If you make it the way she says, they come out looking and tasting perfectly.

Horrible.... they came out so dense. There's no mention of baking powder or baking soda. That's got to be a mistake.

These are not the traditional cupcakes but really yummy to say the least. They are dense and had more of a brownie texture. I used the whisking attachment of the mixer rather than a paddle like Ina showed (maybe that makes a difference. I'll try it out next time.
I think they go very well warmed up and served with vanilla ice cream. They can also be used in a chocolate trifle. YUM!!!!

Absolutely marvelous! The taste and texture are perfect! I served these to the ladies at work who are serious chocolate lovers; they were a hit! Thanks for another great recipe.

During Ina's show she mentioned that the cupcakes will not rise because there is no leavening in them. She had hers filled all the way to the top. Not 3/4s like usual. Someone should have mentioned this when posting the recipe.

I have made this recipe as a cake and not a cupcake many many times. It has been well received by everyone. I don't eat chocolate generally and even I like this cake. What I find is that the american cakes are very fluffy which I don't enjoy. This cake is a more dense cake. Perhaps that is why the reviews say - it did not rise enough

I usually love Ina Garten's recipes so I thought I would try making these cupcakes. They looked so easy on her show! I did read the mixed reviews but thought, let's give it a try anyway. The only thing I changed was adding 1 tsp baking powder after reading the reviews saying the cupcakes did not rise. The recipe turned out about 24 cupcakes, not the 12 stated and no matter if I filled half way or 3/4 full, the cupcakes did not rise well. The first batch I had to cook so long to get them set that the tops were crunchy and the second batch did not make it to the top of the liner. The taste of the cupcake was ok but not the best. After the cupcakes did not turn out well, I did not try the ganache. Very disappointing recipe.
