I've eaten onion rings in restaurants from Maine to California, but whenever I tried to make them myself, they never turned out right. Now, thanks to Ina, I make the best onion rings EVER right here at home! And the recipe is so simple.

I made these today for my family with turkey burgers and Ina's potato salad recipe.

I followed Ina's recipe exactly. I did howeaver "double dip" the onion rings.

Instead of just coating the onion rings once in the dry flour cornmeal mixture. I returned them back into the buttermilk wet mixture and then back into the dry flour cornmeal mixture again before deep frying them in the 350 degree vegetable oil. The batter was thicker on the onion slices and amazingly crisp and delicious. I have never had better onion rings!

    Ina, thank you!

Cheers to the BEST SHOW on the Food TV network!

    We love you!

I am a big fan of onion rings, but, oddly enough, I've never cooked them. This recipe is simple and quick, the results delicious. Thank you, Ina!

This was an incredibly EASY and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS recipe! I made the entire steakhouse dinner for us and talk about outstanding! Who'd a thunk soaking in buttermilk would act as the glue for the flour and cornmeal! And the cornmeal did PRECISELY what Ina said it would-make it crispy! Cannot wait to make again!

These were SO good! I made 4 large red onions for my family of 5, probably could have gotten by with 3 but even my kids who don't like onions ate 'em up. I do disagree with the difficulty level. It really should be rated easy. It's a bit time consuming if you do a super large batch like I did but well worth it!

The BEST onion rings I've ever made. My brother told me about Ina's recipe and said they were the bomb. So I've been making them for about a year now. Just realized I'd never reviewed them! Someone witch slap me for that faux pas!
Love your recipes Ina!! You rock!

These were delicious!! The coating was light but crunchy and flavor was wonderful. I think if one is looking for a thick coating they might be disappointed but it was just what I like. I marinated the onions in the buttermilk for several hours and had no problems with the coating staying on. My only problem was keeping the oil at a steady temp but that's my stove problem and not recipe.
