Absolutely delicious! I subbed half and half for the heavy cream and used an emulsifier to puree the whole batch, since I don't have a food mill. Will definitely be making again!

I had a bunch of tomatoes from the garden and was in search of a creamy tomato soup recipe. This recipe did not disappoint! After the soup cooked, I blended it up in my Vita-mix, then added cream. It looked and tasted like restaurant soup. Everything was all blended in together, peelings and all. I added about one more TBS of tomato paste than the recipe called for. Yum yum!

I have only been cooking for five years.......this recipe has made me a star!!! I have tried many soup recipes and have taken numerous cooking classes from top chefs.....everyone always says...."stick to Ina's tomato soup"!!
I do use creme fraiche and crumbled gorgonzola cheese on top.
From one Ina to another Ina......"thank you"!

Love the recipe however i combine both of Ina's delicious tomato soup recipes roasted and this one. I roast the carrots and red oinion together and the tomato's separately. I also use less pepper, about a tsp and half and half. Everyone love's it as much as I do. Thanks Ina

This is a great recipe!!! I did a few things different but it came out perfect. I used 5 cloves garlic, 1/2 cup basil, used the whole tomato (peels, seeds & all, 1/2 white onion 1/2 yellow onion instead of red onion, and coconut cream (a can of coconut milk, the thicker part, and 1-2 tsp tomato bouillon. It was still a bit too liquidy so I used around a lil brown rice flour. Absolutely amazing!

This is my favorite tomato soup recipe. My three year old daughter loves it too - she tries to lick the bowl clean! The black pepper gives the soup a little heat, but we like it that way. It does not bother my children. I have made this soup a few times and have consistently good results. I would recommend not substituting any ingredients and just following the recipe. (Ketchup for tomato paste? Yuck! It does freeze very well, by the way. I like to freeze the leftovers in lunch-sized portions.

After all the rave reviews I was expecting a great soup. Boy was I disappointed. I did what others suggested and cut down on the pepper and salt. Because of items / ingredients available I had to do a few substitutions so maybe that accounted for my very poor results but I really don't think that was the main reason (i.e. - vidalia rather than red onions, ketchup rather than tomato paste, emulsion blender rather than food mill
I love tomato soup but this was just barely edible. It was very acidic and sour and gave both me and my husband heartburn. The flavor was pretty yucky. The color was orange so not very appetizing (I put less carrots than it said so don't understand why so orange. For me, this is NOT a repeat.

This is by far the best soup I have ever had. My dad hates tomato soup, and he loves this one! Definitely try it.

Absolutely delicious! I saw this recipe while on a cross trainer at my gym and had to go directly to the store, buy the ingredients and the food mill. I made it exactly to specifications. It's fresh and delicious! I think it's great by itself but paired with a little quiche or grilled cheese..yum! Personally, I loved the kick from the fresh grated pepper but I'm a spicy food lover anyway. I can't wait to make it again and I can't wait until tomato season. I'm going to be visiting the farmers market frequently! Any ideas on how this soup freezes? I'd love to make some & freeze it if that's at all possible..

The tomato recipe I usually make is simple, healthy and satisfying: tomatoes, carrots, garlic, olive oil, cilantro in water. But doesn't win my heart like adding heavy whipping cream, chicken broth, and touch of basil leaves. It's hard to go wrong with these ingredients. I hastily chunked everything together without saateing using my own imagination for measurement and it was wonderful. This with a Gorgonzola spinach salad and crackers, garlic salt oregano bread, or croutons mmmmm one of my favourite foods now.
