Fantastic recipe. We had this for dinner last night with grilled Swiss cheese sandwiches on homemade Italian bread. We changed the recipe a little. We used yellow onion, and 1/2 canned San Marzano tomatoes and 1/2 last years canned tomatoes from our garden. I woke up this morning thinking about how good it was. LOL.

Such a great & easy recipe!! What I changed on it: ended up being short 1 lbs of fresh tomatoes so I used a 1 lbs can of pealed whole tomatoes, added about 1/4 cup of sherry, 1/4 tsp of thyme with the chicken broth and used about 1 1/4 cups of half & half instead of cream. I also peeled the fresh tomatoes. Used WAY less pepper than it called for and less salt. I think most people should add those on their own to suit their own tastes. It is so good.... my husbands & kids DEVOURED it. I did end up with some left overs as well. All the reviews said it freezes well, so we are trying that....

This soup is AMAZING! My husband and I have been eating organic and he was fussing because he couldn't have canned tomato soup anymore so I found this recipe and surprised him when he got home from work. We had this soup and grilled cheese sandwiches and it was perfect! Another smash hit for Ina!

What a great soup. I did use a bit more garlic (love garlic and skinned and seeded tomatoes (German Johnsons from my garden so I did not have put them through the mill. The sugar helped cut the acid in the tomatoes. I love you Contessa.

I love this soup except little too much of sweet taste. I only used 1 table spoon of sugar. Next time maybe no sugar. But still 5 stars.

With an over load of tomatoes from the garden, this recipe was a natural to try, It was easy, directions were simple to follow-- and the taste was wonderful!!. I had home made chicken stock in the freezer that was made for this moment. My husband enjoyed a cup of fresh tomato soup, minus the cream, for lunch--- no more canned product for us!!! Thanks Ina

Amazing taste. This soup was so good that I have made it twice in one month. We had an abundance of tomatoes from our garden and was looking for a way to use them. I actually used more then the recipe called for and it was great. Will make often.

Unbelievably good!! My wife and I were literally speechless during dinner because we couldn't stop eating this except to mumble how good it was every now and again. I even used chicken broth instead of stock by mistake, and while it wasn't quite as thick as it should be, it was still probably one of the best tomato soups I've ever tried. I don't agree with the review that rated this poorly saying it was too spicy. It had flavor and some spice, but no more than you would get from a restaurant version. I think everything just popped more because, obviously, it's all fresh.

Absolutely fantastic! Great flavor and texture, and easy to make. I did like someone else said and flash cooked the tomatoes in hot water to peel them, since I don't have a food mill and don't want the skins left in. I used my immersion blender to smooth it out. Also, like several others suggested, I cut back on the cream. I used under 1/2 a cup. My suggestion is start with a little and add then add more if you feel it needs it. Delicious! This is a keeper.

This soup was ver delicious! I only added a little of the cream after reading the other reviews. The only problem that I had was that the soup wasnt very thick. I also added the rind of some gruyere cheese for more flavor.
