Fantastic! I also made the recipe exactly as directed, and agree that those who thought it was too dry must have been using dry dates. I was even a little worried because my loaf pan is a slightly different size, but it came out perfect. The frosting is yummy, but the bread would also be delicious on its own.

A little time consuming, but totally worth it. My husband and I made ourselves sick on it. The frosting is heavenly. Ina is amazing!

Really, really good! I made it just as the recipe directed. I had to bake mine a few minutes longer as I live at sea level. The bread was moist and delicious. I will be making a lot of loaves for Christmas presents!

This is delicious bread. I used all the ingredients as called for, however after reading some of the comments about it being on the dry side I added an extra TB of butter. Even though I did add more butter, I was a bit disappointed with the texture, a little too crumbly. When I make it again, I will definitely add a whole stick of butter instead of half a stick. I made the cream cheese spread someone else here suggested with the green olives and cayenne and added a dash of Tabasco sauce and I love that peppery/savory/salty with the orange fruity date bread. This recipe is "a piece of cake" and is definitely a keeper. Thanks Ina.

LOVE this recipe! It's very similar to one my parents use to make for company, but with "canned" Cross & Blackwell Date & Nut Bread, which wasn't bad. The only minor changes I made to this recipe was to use DARK brown sugar, and omit the cloves! I also make a savory cream cheese spread with cream cheese, chopped green olives and a pinch of cayenne. WOW!!! Like my parents did, I sandwich the savory cream cheese between 2 slices of the sweet date & nut bread. Cut into small triangles, or use cookie cutters for different shapes. FANTASTIC! Thanks so much Ina. Your're the BEST!

New favorite recipe! Such a unique taste. Some breads can feel/look oily but not this one. I doubled the recipe and made 5 mini-loaves in disposable pans (perfect as gifts!. My variations were I toasted pecans, used not-fresh-squeezed orange juice, and didn't even make the cream cheese spread. It's so flavorful on its own. My boyfriend ate it warm but sans butter, which is unheard of for him.
The recipe may look labor intensive but it's not. And the end result is worth any time spent!
For those that mentioned it wasn't moist I wonder the quality of the dates used. I used just harvested Medjool dates and the bread was very moist and soft. Thank you INA!!!!

What a great easy tasty recipe. This bread is so flavorful and easy to make. The orange cream cheese spread on top is really the icing on the cake! I will use this recipe over and over again. I have made three loaves over the last couple weeks and it hasn't lasted long enough yet, but I would imagine it should freeze well also. That'll be my next test. Definitely a winner. Thank you Ina.

I make my own version of date nut bread but this recipe is certainly different than that one! The addition of the orange liqueur, zest and juice and spices really add a nice punch to the flavor. It's a great addition to my recipe sweet bread file. Also, Ina uses x-tra eggs on many occasions. I don't have them on hand but find that using one large egg and one large egg white works perfectly. Any other suggestions?

where do i start, it is so moist it is called bread but it like a moist cake. for my liqueur i used grand marnier (orange and cognac liqueur. also i used walnuts and did not use cloves. i have to say you must use an orange liqueur that is what gives it the most flavor. you will love the outcome and it is very easy to make.
