Followed the recipe to the letter. This is the best date nut bread I've ever had. The Orange Cream Cheese Spread really tops it off beautifully.

Followed directions exactly. The prep time was accurate. Quite a lot of dates but the orange makes it appeal to even those who are not date lovers. We enjoyed it with the cheese spread. Thank you Ina as always you hit the mark!

This is a fairly good recipe but could use additional butter, vegetable shortening, or oil because it is somewhat dry.

I just made this and it is great. I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great. I also made the cream cheese but used honey instead of sugar.
I have watched Ina and made her recipes for years and have never found a bad one.
This was no different. It was so easy to make and made the house smell GREAT while baking

I don't get the negative comments either. For Pete's sake, if you don't want to cook, then buy something from the store and quit whining. I love this recipe. Labor intensive my eye. Start to finish was about 20 minutes. Not including soak time for the dates.

I understand "to each his own" but I don't get the bad or labor intensive reviews
on this recipe. I failed to submit a review the first time I made this recipe, but did
make it to rave remarks. I've since made it again and again(without alcohol and
    find it wonderful! thanks Ina

I have just spent 3 days making cranberry/nut bread, fruit cakes, banana nut bread, and several of Ina's cookies--all of which turned out perfectly. Today, I made her date nut spice bread. Although it tasted fabulous, I had a very difficult time cutting the bread into slices. It was quite crusty and fell apart. Out of the whole loaf, I could not get one perfectly cut slice. Has anyone had this problem? I do not know what went wrong. I love to bake and have always had successful results. I just reviewed the video on the cake, and I've done everything as shown in the video. Nothing was left out, baked at the correct temperature, taking 65 minutes to bake, cut when cooled. Love to hear from someone...

I made this for my family for the Thanksgiving weekend breakfast. I followed the bread recipe exactly. I changed the cream cheese spread a little, I used 2 teaspoons of honey in place of the sugar. This was really delicious and so worth all of the chopping and zesting. We really enjoyed this and would gladly serve it again, to anyone!

I'm not sure what the big rave is over this bread. It took entirely to long and was just o.k. to taste.
    I won't be making it again : (
