I made this for Thanksgiving and I was disappointed. The people I brought it to thought it was good, but I am very critical of what I make. I thought the filling had too much flour and was "gummy". It wasn't as flavorful as it should be, perhaps it needed more spices. I have been baking for 52 years, so I know what I'm doing in the kitchen. I had some dough left over, so I made a small open pie with my version of apple pie filling and that was excellent.

I've made this recipe twice. The first time, I didn't have any lemons or oranges, so I left out the zest. The pie was amazing. Then when I made the pie for the second time, I included the zest, and it was less than perfect. It was still edible, but the citrus taste was overwhelming. My husband kept teasing me that it tasted like a lemon meringue pie instead of apple... I think I'll go back to just adding the juice.

This is a really wonderful pie, loaded with flavor. The citrus adds a nice complexity and it just tastes and smells like a holiday pie. A really nice mix of citrus and spices that enhances the flavor of the apples. This pie isn't super sweet, so if you are used to eating pie at Luby's or Marie Calendar's, this may not be the pie for you.

The apple pie was delicious. Everyone loved it. Eventhough my mother-n- law complained about almost everything until she tasted it. She loved it and wanted more the next morning. Great Pie and excellent crust.

After reading all these reviews and I'm glad I did; I'm making the pie crust( something new for me as my old recipe I've done for 50 yrs but I'm relying on my old apple pie recipe for Thanksgiving tomorrow. Too many people who wrote reviews on thi recipes did not like the combination of the apples and citrus. I'm not taking a chance, and no time to do a test run. But I am doing her wild rice salad after I finish the pies.

Have used this recipe (modified several times for a decent pie. The strength is in the homemade dough. I eliminate the majority of the citrus, preferring just a splash of oj or some orange zest.

I use my own recipe for filling, but wanted a new pie crust recipe. Found this one to be absolutely foolproof.

I hate this recipe. The pie looked great but the flavors were off. The citrus was too much. I love Ina Garten's recipes normally, but this was a big misstep.

I ended up throwing it out. I thought a teaspoon of salt seemed like a lot to put in but I love Ina's recipes so I went with it. Not good, I couldn't even eat it and ended trowing the whole thing away. And the lemon and orange zest were a bit much as well. Too tangy and too much extra liquid. A quarter teaspoon of salt would be just fine and I would cut the citrus amounts in half.
