this is excellent clam chowder...every year we go to the montauk chowder festival & this is easily as good or better than anything served there...one note that we find helps, and is another reason to use fresh clams instead of canned, is that the "juice" that each clam has inside when opened should be saved, strained & added to the soup...this stuff really boosts the flavor...

This was just as I expected it to be..really hearty and delicious. I didn't add the carrots, and like other readers, I added a pinch of red pepper and then crumbled bacon at the end...my family couldn't get enough! Thanks Ina!

SO amazing. Made it for my husband and I and he LOOOOVED it!! I served it in an artisan bread bowl and it just put the perfect touch on the perfect soup. Will most definitely make it again..and again and again = Thanks, Ina!

I love manhattan clam chowder as its a fav soup of mine. I made this style for my BF who likes his soups creamier. It was fantastic and sooo good! I've made it a couple times already and a huge hit with everyone--its become my favorite! Soo good, thanks Ina!

Fantastic. Add some bacon and a green and red bell pepper too. But this is easily the best recipe for chowder I've come across.

This is my idea of the perfect New England clam chowder! I usually make the recipe exactly, especially the first time, but admittedly I made some minor changes. My husband and I don't like cooked carrots so I left that out and I used canned clams (3 cans of chopped. I didn't think this was pricey at all ($1.50 for 8 ounces of clam juice. The consistency and spices were perfect.

This was my first attempt making chowder. My family loved it! The only thing I added was bacon. We are looking forward to making this a holiday tradition.

This has become one of our annual vacation staples. We fix up a big pot of it and eat on it 2 or 3 times during the week. It's very good for the soul! Thanks for sharing it.
