Very good. A bit tart. To tone down the tartness you can reduce number of cranberries and use a sweet apple instead of a Granny Smith. I used 2/3 of a stick of butter and low fat sour cream and it turned out great. The cake was very moist and scrumptious!

Would have been a great dessert but I found this to be a little too tart. Next time I will crush the cranberries first and then add more sugar to them. Also, I served this with vanilla ice cream which helped with the tartness.

I am excited about trying out this recipe. In place of the sour cream you could try greek yogurt. People who are lactose intolerant can sometimes tolerate yogurt (like myself or you could try soy sour cream like someone below suggested.

I've been trying out several different recipes using cranberries and apples this past year and even living on Cape Cod has taught me to put several bags of cranberries in the freezer when they appear in the stores in Oct.- December. That would provide all the berries needed for the rest of the year. This recipe does need additional apples - a golden delicious combines well with Granny Smith for texture & sweetness especially. Also, try cooking the cranberries & grannys with some of the sugar before adding the other variety of apples & ingredients - and bake it as soon as possible (still warm this will help the cake cook more evenly. A 10" pie pan is too small fornthe original quantity of ingredients. Try at least a 10" square pyrex pan. If you like a true tart/sweet flavor, try using fresh lemon juice & zest. The cinnamon/ sugar sprinkled on top provides an evenly browned appearance for the cake. Isn't it fun to make it your own recipe after such a good basis?

Great simple recipe. While making, I thought that this would be more of a crumble, but the batter sank down through the fruit during baking and it really was a cake. It was delicious, not too tart and the family and company loved it. I served it with cinnamon ice cream. Whipped cream also would be great.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. My daughter made this to start tesing ideas for Thanksgiving. OMG...this is the most delicious cake. Ovens vary so do test for doneness. we had to give an extra 8 minutes. Then we had to try while it was hot....heaven. The sweet and the tart so wonderful. The next day you could slice it like a pie (we used a fluted quiche pan delicious. So good until the last bite 2 days later. Ina thank you for an amazing dessert. You never fail to get the job right.

I'm always looking for fun ways to add more fruit to my diet. This cake is yummy and one I will make again and again. This recipe is more like a cranberry cobbler and it is perfect due to the low amount of sugar in it. If you have a sweet tooth, add another 1/2 cup of brown sugar to the cranberries. Dr. Oz says that cranberries are a super fruit. And I think this is a super dessert! Note: I used low fat yogurt vs. the sour cream.

This is awesome. The flavors of the cranberries and Granny Smith apples are fantastic. If you can't have dairy, there is a 'soy sour cream' available at health food stores.
