This was fabulous - what a great fresh flavor with the orange juice and zest. After reading the reviews I used a scant 1 cup of sugar in the cake batter. The batter was thicker than I expected but it turned out perfect after baking - mine took about 45 minutes - I think you need to know your own oven. Also, I used two Granny Smith apples instead of one - good balance. For me it was definitely not too tart - I like it tangy -if it's too sweet I can't finish it, especially after a big meal. If you like this recipe (please try it, you won't be sorry and it's perfect for Thanksgiving!, be sure to make Ina's lemon yogurt cake - another winner, on the U.S.Foodnetwork website or in Ina at Home, page. 168. Happy baking !

I had some extra sour cream, was looking for an easy recipe and found it. I used dried cranberries and it turned out great. The next time I'll start pouring the batter from the outside of the dish to the center to get a better seal. This is a keeper!!

I watched this while I was making my shopping list, of course it being July, there were no cranberries around, so I used fresh peaches instead and it was really good!!! my picky daughter loved it. so easy to make too.

I had an unexpected full house over the weekend of my nephew's wedding. I had watched Ina make this cake on her show just that morning and saw how quickly it came together so I gave it a shot. Wow, was it delicious! I topped each serving with a dollop of fresh whipped cream and it was a hit! Thank you, Ina! Your recipes are always so good!

I made this for my family and they loved it. This is a great recipe for the fall but you can make it anytime if you can find cranberries.
It reminds you of a upside down cake. Thank you again, Ina.

This was a delicious dessert. Unfortunately we made this in May and there weren't any fresh or even frozen cranberries to be found in the town we in. So we used a can of whole cranberry sauce. It was still really good. The cake part was perfectly sweet to the tartness of the cranberries and apple. This will definitely be made again.

I, too, like cranberries, however 12 oz was way too much in relation to the amount of apple. The downside to reducing the cranberries would be there wouldn't be as much juice at the bottom. I'll have to try it though. The cake was easy to put together. I thought the cake itself was on the sweet side. This cake may be better prepared if you put 1/2 cup of brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar in the cake batter and 1/2 cup of white sugar on the fruit. If you don't have cranberries, I think apple and raspberry would be good here.

Had to make a dessert on the spur of the moment and luckily had all ingredients. Made it exactly to the letter, and it was absolutely perfect, everyone raved! I didn't think it was too tart, but I love cranberries. Might want to use one extra apple and less cranberries if its too tart for you. The cinnamon/sugar on top was perfect. So quick to put together, baked for 50 minutes.

I loved this recipe as it was easy (as Ina promised. I did change it up a bit...not crazy about cranberries...I used three apples and two to three teaspoons of lemon juice in place of the orange and cranberries. We loved it! My husband wants me to make one every weekend. The cake part is delicious! Thanks Ina!
