Excellent! I have a bit of a cold and thought soup would be great. Very easy and delicious. It was a hit in my house. The grilled cheese croutons are genius!

Easy and so good. Loved it. Doesn't need the saffron, next time will add some basil and some Trader Joe's 21 Seasoning Salute. The grilled sandwiches are good too.

This is very good but I found that I had to "add a few things" because IMO it was a bit bland. So I add celery salt, garlic powder, Penzey's Mural of Flavor, Penzey's Mignonette, and a tsp of sugar. I agree with a previous review that the saffron doesn't seem to do anything so in the future I plan to leave it out. Also, I now skip the orzo - we like it w/o the pasta in it. I just swirl in a quarter cup of Half & Half instead of heavy cream (too rich for me. I now mix some grated sharp cheddar and a little grated parmegiano-reggiano into the gruyere for the "croutons". We really like this soup and the croutons. For me: I cut the grilled cheese sandwiches into very small squares. My husband likes them in larger squares.

Delicious. A little bit of saffron goes a long way!!! The grilled cheese croutons are a lovely accompaniment. I used Velveeta cheese and it was still awesome. Took about five minutes to cook on our panini grill. Enjoy!!!

Absolutely delicious. I made it exactly as it calls for. I loved the onions but it would be just as delicious if you used less. The second time I made it I did not use the saffron and it really didn't make a huge difference. Given the expense of saffron I probably would do without in the future. We loved the grilled cheese croutons and they are what made it a 5+ at our housel

Absolutely fantastic, of course, it's Ina. I cut back on the onions after reading other reviews, I used two cups, I also cut back on the salt from 1 TBS to 1/2 TBS. This soup is so lush and silky and the orzo added a little extra zip. I will make this receipe for years to come, it's really THAT GOOD. PS: Didn't make the croutons, for me no need.

Like most other people are saying, there were too many onions. I mean I love onions, but this was too much for even me. And I loved the orzo. In fact, if the ratio of onions to orzo had been switched, this would have been incredible. Will definitely try again with a few tweaks. It's too easy and delicious not to!

DELICIOUS! I too added a bit of sugar and only used one small onion. Even great without the cream. I also used a bit of tumeric instead of saffron.

I made this recipe after trekking through fresh, deep snow for 2 hours after a blizzard. I don't like gruyere so I did a mix of havarti and an emmenthal swiss. Absolutely a wonderful choice of recipes for a cold day when all I wanted was soup. I used light cream as I didn't have heavy cream. Thought the saffron elevated the soup from ordinary to sublime.
