This cake was a winner! It was so delicious, it was gone in no time. This is now in my "favorites" file to make again.

I've made this a few times - once for my friend when she became a US citizen. It is always a huge hit. It looks way more complicated than it is to put together.

I followed the recipe to the letter and it turned out perfectly. It looked like a bakery cake. The cake is delicious and moist, and everyone raved about both the cake and the frosting. And any left over also freezes really well, just wrap it in foil loosely a few times over--even the raspberries were great when I thawed it three weeks later. It easily feeds 15.

I loved making this cake. It was very easy and so much fun! I followed the recipe to a "T" and it was absolutely perfect. People that say the cake didn't work out or whatever must not be following the directions because it would be pretty hard to mess up this recipe. A HUGE hit at the party I brought it too.

The cake was stunning looking. Perfect 4th of July Festive! So much fun to make. Sort of. Piping whipped cream through the pastry bag was a little difficult.
The sponge cake was AWESOME. I loved it. The cake huge, but after 9 people dug into it, there was hardly any left!
Oh, and that whipped buttercream frosting was magnifique...

Awesome cake. It was moist and delicious. The cream cheese icing was so tasty - not to sweet. I cut the recipe in half and made it in a 9 x 13 pan. I had to cook it a few minutes longer but it came out fine. By mistake, I added to much vanilla to the cake but it still tasted great. I did not have enough icing to add the white stripes between the raspberries so next time I will make the full icing recipe. Of course, the cake had a huge visual impact and was the star at our 4th of July cookout!

This is a fabulous cake--or, as I like to say, "frantastic." It was moist and dense and utterly delicious. I've posted the recipe on my blog, FransFavs.

I put only 2 and half cups of flour and the cake came out just fine. I noticed that with Ina's cooking sometimes you have to add less flour. I also did not add as much sugar. Adding 3 cups of sugar is way too much (1 cup is plenty. I have added only half a pound in icing (if not less. It came out great and very delicious.

What an awesome, awesome cake! Simply perfect! I baked it last night for work and everyone loved it! I kept the recipe exactly as is for the cake itself, and it turned out perfectly. The only thing I changed was the icing. Based on some of the reviews i read below, and i read up to 6 pages worth of reviews, there was an issue with the yellow tinting of the icing due to the heavy amount of butter. I reduced the four sticks of butter to two, and i added 3 bars of creamcheese (as opposed to 2 1/4 that is originally stated in the recipe. There was a faint, slight yellow hue to my icing, but nothing overt or distractable.
All in all, this recipe is being added as one of my favorites. It really is a gem!
