This cake is really dense, like a pound cake. I wasn't sure what to expect when I make it but it tasted very good. The icing recipe is also a winner and they go together well. I used strawberries instead of raspberries, like a lot of other people, and it worked out well. I just had a problem trying to find a pan big enough to bake the cake in. I could only find one online, so I ended up using a 19"x11" catering toss-away pan for it. It worked out fine. I bought them at Costco.

I made this exactly how Ina made it on television, only I used fresh, sliced strawberries instead of raspberries. Everybody that I made it for was raving about the buttercream frosting. It's refrigerating right now and I can't wait to taste the actual cake tomorrow morning. Thanks again, Ina!

I made this recipe last year and loved the cake. My kids did not like the cream cheese frosting and I thought my frosting was not white enough. This year, I used Rachel Ray's Cupcake Icing recipe in place of the original icing and liked it better. I used strawberries instead of raspberries b/c the market was out of raspberries. The cake looks fabulous!!! A big hit at my 4th of July party!

This is a delicious cake. And as for the previous comment, last year I made it the night before and put it in the fridge and it was perfect. It kept it's shape and I think the cold frosting and fruit taste better this way.

Lorna you will need to use all purpose flour. You got the corn starch in there already. So no need for cake flour. Have fun!

I will give it a shot thanks to all your good ratings.

This will be the third year I am making this cake for my daughter's July 4th party. Everyone loves it and requests it for the following year. Also, my granddaughter (now 17 takes a baggie of frosting home with her...she can't get enough?
