I made this cake for my sons pre-school graduation. It was very simple to make and everyone enjoyed the home made treat. As a mom, I was happy to serve fresh fruit instead of candy. We are having it at our family's July 4th party and it is sure to be requested every year.

This cake really turned out great. I divided the recipe in half because I didn't have the correct size pan that was called for. I used a 10x14 inch pan, and a 9x13 pan. The smaller pan didn't have as much batter as the other one, so I cooked it less time. Also, I divided the smaller one in half and made it a double decker, with the icing in the center as well as the top. I used one less stick of butter for the icing and it was just fine. Thanks for a great basic recipe. Everyone enjoyed it, and they still are.

I made this for Memorial Day and it was soooo good. I cut the ingredients in half and baked in a 9 X 13. The frosting was delicious too!!!

I've done this recipe at least 4 times now. The cake is my standard for making a yellow cake now. Wonderful and fun!!!

I watched the Contessa all the time, but this cake blew me over. I am going to try this cake as soon as possible. Any cake that contains sour cream and butter icing is very delicious.

I involved my kids in making this and they loved it. It really WOWS people at the picnics. The cake was dense but that's my fault because I live at high altitude--4800ft--so I'll have to try it again with some adjustments.

I'm making this cake as I write this and there is something wrong with the cake. The batter looked fine when I put it in the pan but it's been in the over for an hour now and the top is browned and beautiful but it's still wiggling and jiggling inside. Not Good. I checked all the ingredients, re-read all the directions - followed everything to the T so it's gotta be the recipe. I'd be interested in knowing if others get the same reaction. The frosting tastes good but now it's 8:00 pm and I'm gonna have to run to the grocery for a box cake after spending all that time and ingredients on a wasted effort...I'm not a happy camper so I can't give it more then one star - I trusted this recipe because it's Gale's and usually her recipes bear wonderful results...not this time.

It was easy to make and the baking time is RIGHT ON! I made it 5 days in advance...baking the cake, letting it cool and then wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap. I icied it on the day of the party. The icing is DIVINE!!! Watch out though - on a hot summer day the icing will start to melt!!
Will make again!
