Love this cake!!! Made it last year for fourth of July and I am making it again! The cake was so moist and the frosting so rich and good! Way better than those tacky jello flag cakes! Make this cake!!!

I have tried a few of Ina's recipes and frankly have not had good luck. The cake was too dense and fortunately I reduced the sugar in the icing by half or I would've had a diabetes party! The berries saved the day!

The is by far one of the best cakes from Ina's recipes. I make this cake every 4th of July and am just about ready to go in the kitchen and make it again. You will not be disappointed if you make this cake.

I love this recipe for its presentation. The butter cream is VERY sweet and rich, but yummy. I found the cake to be just OK. So I made a lemon cake and used the same frosting and fruit and it was FABULOUS. Lemon is a lovely complement to the frosting.

I have been making this cake for many years for a 4th of July community picnic. It is beautiful, tastes great and is always a huge hit.

I have made this cake for the 4th of July for the past two years and plan on making it again for 2011. I have gotten nothing but compliments! It's a rather dense cake with an amazing flavor! I agree--keep it in the refrigerator until ready for use. And, be prepared to spend some time on the decorating. All in all, the time spent is well worth it!
