I thought the cake was too dense and not as moist as I expect from an Ina recipe.

I have made this recipes two years in a row for my Mother's birthday both for the family celebration and for a large group of friends at her retirement home. Everyone loves the cake and icing. I use this icing on chocolate cupcakes, as well. Be careful not to fill muffin tins too much as these rise quite a bit. I would say a little less than 3/4 with a paper liner. Enjoy. Thanks to Ina, again for an incredible recipe.

This cupcake was rich & moist. The frosting was just perfect. People who are used to cake mixes should stay away from this recipe. Homemade recipes have a richer taste and a more dense crumb. This is an easy recipe for people with sophisticated tastes. Thank you Ina for reminding us what real cake should taste like.... yummy!

This is the first time I have made cupcakes and they were a hit! The cupcakes were very moist and nothing is better than cream cheese icing! The previous reviewer questioned the use of corn starch in this recipe. I guess this may seem a bit odd when first looking at the ingredients, but corn starch and all-purpose flour make cake flour.

I just made these last night. I wasn't thrilled with them. They weren't as dry as a lot of the other recipes I have tried but they weren't as moist as I had hoped either. Also this recipe made 3 dozen cupcakes for me. If you feel them too much the batter comes over the side. Does anybody know what the cornstarch does? I've never heard of putting cornstarch in cupcake batter.

I agree with previous- not sweet enough for my kids. More corn bready than I expected and not as moist as expected. The batter was phenomenal so the final product surprised me.

I have made this cupcake several times. It is easy, pretty & flavorful. Just be sure to fill the cupcake tins 2/3 full, not to the top. It comes out nice & flat on top, which makes it nice for decorating. I don't use the frosting in the recipie. instead I make stiff icing so I can decorate the cupcakes. i made them for a tea party & made decorative flowers...so cute!
