Turned out too sweet, with a very strong wine aroma. I've made better things from Ina's recipes.

I usually make a thick baked french onion soup. So, when I wanted a lighter soup, I turned to her recipe which makes a great tasting broth that I will use for other dishes. I didn't think the liquor taste was overpowering and I don't drink alcohol. Perhaps the reader didn't cook out the alcohol per the recipe. I will definitely make this again.

I love French Onion soup and this recipe didn't dissapoint!!! Wonderful!! The recipe calls for veal stock but Ina uses beef and chicken stock on the show. I used chicken and beef and it was wonderful!!! Thanks Ina for another incredible meal.

This soup is absolutely wonderful. My husband said it was the best he ever tasted! I carmelized the onions for about 45 minutes until dark and rich. And I couldn't find veal stock so I used all beef stock. Still wonderful. I can't wait to make it again. You can always trust Ina's recipes.

I made this for lunch today and it turned out great. I cut the recipe in half and used a combination of beef and chicken stock. I didn't have any Sherry, but I didn't miss it in the recipe. It is easy to prepare if you use a food processor for the onions.

I felt this recipe used too much alcohol. My husband didn't care for it. I prefer french onion soup with only a hint of sherry or wine, but this recipe used 2 1/2 cups of alcohol. Sorry, won't be making again.

Very good French Onion Soup - full of flavor. It was even better the next day once the flavors married. I will most definitely make this one again.

I thought I'd give this a try. My recipe is way better than this one, sorry Ina. This had too much wine taste for me and not enough beef taste. I ended up adding some beef bouillon and it brought it around nicely. I do like more of a gooey cheese on top also.

this is the best french onion soup i have ever made i used brandy and skipped the sherry and topped with gruyere and it came out soo good. the onions took a little bit longer to brown but sooooooooo worth it. You have GOT to try this recipe.
