To make your life easier and save yourself some prep time feel free to use the following tips:
1. use a food processor to chop all of the fruit, a few pulses [more with the figs] will get everything nice and course
2. you do not have to use sherry, you can substitute any other kind of juice or liqueur. Amaretto would be great in this dish, but I use pomegranate juice and it tastes GREAT. You could use literally any kind of juice as a substitute for the alcohol though. It yields about 4 dozen regular sized cookies. Bake it for 30 minutes if you put 2 pans in the oven at the same time.
Really great cookie!

So I see a recurring theme: "I didn't follow the recipe and it was either spectacular or horrid!" Did anybody follow the recipe explicitly AND not like the results? One person couldn't find the salt; it is the 9th Burger dot. Someone else thought the clove was too much at 1/2 t (little "t", not big "T"! Another respondant says this is their "exact" recipe, but doesn't use any of the same key ingredients and adds cinnamon! Is reading these reviews as funny to you as it is to me?

I substituted Shiraz for dry sherry, because I didn't have sherry and subbed molasses for the honey, in order, to have a more traditional fruitcake flavor. Used dates, maraschino cherries I smashed and towel dried, green cherries, Craisins and walnuts. I had all of these on hand and let me say, YUM!! Easy to make and delicious!

These cookies are delicious--great substitute for fruitcake for the holidays. Nice change from the normal Christmas cookies. Easy and a wonderful aroma.
