were the eggs missing from the recipe or are there no eggs IN the original recipe? I'm confused but I don't want to make these until I know. I saw the show but didn't notice that she didn't add any eggs until I READ the recipe when I printed it out.

After reading all the reviews about how dense it appears there is a missing ingredient : 2 eggs

Taste of cupcakes was excellent, but the texture was extremely dense. Big disappointment. Cream cheese icing was delicious. Is there, perhaps, a missing ingredient?

I replaced some of the molasses with Lyle's Golden Syrup, half golden syrup and half molasses. Watching her show I thought that it looked too dark, and the molasses can be overpowering in taste, so I decided to reduce the molasses and add the caramel sweet tasting Lyle's Golden Syrup. I also didn't bake the cupcakes 25 minutes, I only baked them for 18 minutes and let them rest in the pan for 10 minutes. I think the previous reviewers who baked them for the full time made them dense and hard. By taken the cakes out at 18 minutes, they continue to bake in the pan, carry over baking time, and that is how they still stay moist and wonderful. I also added all the rum that was in the pan, very good choice.

This recipe is good ... it's not absolutely fantastic , but it isn't bad , and if a family member or friend asked me to make it again , I probably would . The cake is a little on the dry side , but not chalky or anything . The frosting was delicious ; a tad more vanilla perhaps ? Love how this recipe is far from the norm <3 .. Thanks Ina :

I love Ina. Everything I make of hers turns out perfect. EXCEPT these cupcakes. The flavor was good but the texture was dry and dense. We could have used them as hockey pucks. The frosting, however, was delicious.

I made these exactly as written and they turned into dense muffins, not light an airy like a cupcake. They were hardly eaten at my party... I wouldn't make these again. This was a disappointment as I LOVE Ina!
