Turns out great everytime. I added a small pot of raspberry jam for dipping or spreading on top with these to give it that monte cristo flavor, but great plain as well.
Note: don't overload with ham, i did and the bottom didn't cook and the pastry was too watery. Lesson learned.

I made this for a New Year's Eve party, and it was a great success. I'll definitely make this again. Per other reviews, I increased the amount of ham to 1/2 lb, but I found it too salty. Next time, I'll use 1/3 lb each of ham and cheese. (I also used Swiss instead of Gruyere. I also recommend crimping the edges with a fork to keep the filling inside. This dish is best straight from the oven. It's not so good once it has cooled because the cheese congeals. It reheats OK the next day.

I made this dish for the first time today. It looks so decadent, but it was so easy! It's also really great for the kids to eat. I used habanero Jack cheese instead of the gruyere and served it with mimosas. The spicy cheese really woke up this dish, but I think any cheese would do. Great for a brunch with the ladies or as an appetizer that's fun for everyone. Another great recipe from Ina! Thanks!

Made this for a New Year's Party today. It is delicious and it looks like you slaved over the oven for days. The dijon mustard is the perfect condiment to this recipe. I will definitely be handing this down to my children.

This is such a simple thing....Why didn't I think of this before!? I have done this with Crescent rolls many, many times, but it is much better with the Puff Pastry!
I can't count the number of variations I have done, but I think my all time favorite is the ham & cheese (I normally use swiss, I'm on a budget, then I will put a layer of chopped up SPICY GIARDINIERA...WOW it is so flavorful!
Thanks for the base of many, many appetizers. Most of the time it is a meal for me!

I served this to my family as an appetizer for Christmas Eve- and they loved it! It was all gone in seconds- I should have made a second! I am from the south, and have never heard of swiss guyere cheese so I used baby swiss instead. Still amazing! Puff pastry makes this dish look so fancy yet it is easy to make! Next tim I think I'll add more dijon mustard- I spread it too thin and couldn't taste much of it. I can't wait for my next party- I'll be making this again!

I thought this recipe was very easy to do. I followed Ina's directions and it worked perfectly. Forgot the Dijon so used yellow mustard. Not as good bu tthe whole thing was very tasty.
