I was asked to make applesauce for our family's Easter dinner. After reading the responses to others that have tried it, I decided to reduce the citrus by half, knowing I could add more later, if I thought it needed it. That was the only change I made. It was perfect and brought about many compliments. This is a keeper!

This is absolutely AMAZING!!! I just happened to receive a large bag of apples from a friend and they were going to go bad soon so I decided to try to make applesauce. This recipe is incredibly easy. I didn't count how many apples I used and I didn't have brown sugar so I substituted with a little less than 1/2 cup of sugar and I didn't use as much butter as this called for (maybe half. Also, I read some other reviews where people complained about the level of citrus and spices in this recipe. Disclaimer, my family and I are huge citrus people (in particular me so the amount of citrus called for was perfect! It adds the perfect balance of YUMM. As for the spices, I didn't measure but I'm sure I used about the called for amount. This was great to eat right out of the oven. perfect, perfect, perfect. Ina never fails. This is a must try.

Hi Ina. Let me tell you something about myself. I am 100% percent Italian and I am a GREAT cook I learned in Italy and from my mother. A good cook knows his or her ingredients and spices, how much and what will work. I watch your show and i am impressed by you, I know your your food is with fine ingredients not to much or to little a well combination. I decided to make your apple sauce and herb creme cheese...WOW.....PERFECT....YOUR A KEEPER

Love love love this simple recipe. Made it without the orange juice. But nothing was taken away from the perfect balance. The texture and flavor came out just right. Will be making this again and again.

My go-to applesauce recipe, and it works with whatever mix of apples I've got - the more kinds, the better it is!

This is a keeper! We followed the recipe to a T - using Grannys and Mcintosh. It keeps great. Make extra for leftovers!

my children like applesauce, and although the adults are not usually crazy about it, my husband did like this recipe...I used granny smith and gala apples, and most definitely, cut back on the lemon juice to a generous squeeze...I think that's what made it so sour the first time I made it, not the oranges, at least for my family.....it's so good warm too

I love this recipe! It was so easy and I will definitely do it again. It took me longer than 20 minutes prep time, but that's not a reflection on the recipe but on me.

Wow! NOT that great. I was surprised to find that it didn't suite my tastes, because I usually love all of Ina's apple deserts. As other cooks noted, way to much citrus and too much cinnamon and/or all spice. I would use only one orange and maybe 1/2 the spices. The good news is that you can put it in a dutch oven and let it cook in the oven without a bother. I think I would try it again with the modifications, but net time heed the warnings of other reviewers.

Perfect. Utterly Perfect. Thank you, Ina. I omitted the sugar and butter because both were unnecessary! Used zest and juice from one orange. I use this recipe throughout the year with apples that become old or soft. I don't measure a thing. Fill the pot with apples, add zest, juice and spices...if I have them all. I don't even mix it! Any apple flavor or color or combination is terrific. Have used with and without the peel for coloring...all looks the same to me. Delicious!
