Why oh why did I succomb all these years to by pre packaged granola bars????!!!!Yeah for Ina! I absolutely love this recipe. I have made it 3 or 4 times and I double it each time becasue these are so good. I toast all ingredients on a large half sheet pan lined with parchement paper.

As the ingedients are toasting (I use raw wheat germ so I toast a little longer I use an 8 qt stock pot for melting and mixng. I transfer double batch onto my parchment lined baking pan, pat and bake. goes into the high school lunch box and it is shared among friends at school, These are now asked for by special request! I do not use the amount of dried fruit it calls for they are sweet enough on their own. i may throw in a half a cup of raisins in a double batch but thats it...if I did add more fruit I would definitely cut down on the honey and sugar...but as the recipe goes they hold together perfectly after cooloing, so I dont want to mess around with the sugar too much.

These were fantastic. I cheated a little because I just brought a bag of nut and raison trail mix (the $2.49 priced bag. I picked the raisons out and toasted the nuts with the oats and coconut (I also forgot to get wheat germ. Anyway, they were so good. After they cooled they were pretty gooey and soft, but together. After they were in the fridge they had a crisper consistency. Note...cut them when they are soft and gooey (I didn't. Anyway, I have always tried to get my daughter, she's 11, to eat granola because she is a swimmer and I think it's a healthy snack for energy. She has never liked granola, she's tried organic, gourmet, you name it and hates it each and every time, Except that she absolutely loved these! She wanted some in her lunch box, afternoon snack...I had to make her stop eating the granola bars. I'm going to make some later today. Thanks Ina, these were great!

These are great! I make a batch every other week for my husband to take to work for his breakfast. I add some flax seed along with wheat germ. I add whatever dried fruit we have on hand and sometimes I add some dark chocolate chips. I keep the chips in the freezer and let the mixture cool down before I add them so they don't melt. I never have a problem with the bars falling apart. I let them cool for at least 3 hours so they get nice and hard before cutting. Oh, and these are awesome for hiking too!

Easy and delicious! We don't like apricots so we use a bit more date or a bit more cranberry whichever is on hand. Try to find dried fruit from a farmers market/grocer. We don't use brand name dried fruit from our local chain grocer because it is coated in sugar. This may be why some find these overly sweet... Or maybe not, just a thought! Oddly, they can be unstable. So, sometimes we have granola bars and sometimes we have granola to throw in yogurt. Can't explain it!

This recipe contains a lot of good-tasting things, but it's much too sweet and the bars fall apart.
I would make it again only without the dates (too sweet.

These are delicious, but I could use some help getting them to stick together. The only thing I changed is I cut the coconut to cut the sweetness a bit. Other than that I'm following the recipe and letting them cool completely. I'll keep trying though because these are so yummy!

Too sweet! Tried recipe a couple of times - Cut honey in half and you will have a perfect granola bar.

I have made these at least a dozen times...and each time I make a double batch! These are absolutely phenomenal but their is one huge problem..every time I make them my husband takes a batch into work for the guys and I share them with neighbors and friends and then they are gone! I guess I'll have to start making triple batches!!!
