If you follow the recipe and the food turns black, that isn't a good recipe.

This is a good basic granola. I added vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, switched some of the honey for real maple syrup, sprinkled in some coconut and added 1/3 c. brown sugar after reading other reviews that it wasn't sweet enough. I'm surprised Ina didn't "bump up the volume" on this one, I had to do it. Way off on time and temp. Bake at 300 and watch carefully in 10 min. increments.

There must be a typo on either the temp or time because I pulled this out at 30" and it was slightly burnt. However, it was still edible. The flavor is good so I'll be playing around with this recipe til I perfect it but at least I have a starting place. I hate to rate one of Ina's recipes so low but if I hadn't had my eye on it all those ingredients would've been wasted.

I've made smaller batches of this recipe quite a few times eliminating the oil, slightly increasing the honey, decreasing the amount of dried fruit (they're full sugar adding vanilla.
Below is my version
2.5C oats, 1C sliced almonds,3/4C shredded coconut, 2/3 C honey, 1/4 t salt, 1t vanilla, 1/2 t almond extract' 1.5 C dried fruit, 3/4 C chocolate chips optional.
Toast first three ingredients at 350 until lightly browned - approx. 10 min. Remove & decrease heat to 300.
Meanwhile heat honey, extracts & salt on stove top in pot large enough to mix all ingredients. Once honey is liquified add toasted ingredients. Mix in dried fruit & chips. Spoon into 9 x 10 pan...so the mix is about one to two up inches thick.
Bake approx 25 min at 300.

Is the oven temperature and/or baking time a misprint? I baked it at 350 for 30 minutes and it still burned.

I made only 1/2 the recipe and it was good but I almost burnt it. I had to take it out after about 10 minutes. I think the 45 minutes was a typing error. I would turn it to 300 next time and watch it closely after 10 minutes. I added crystalized ginger like the kind I've bought at Trader Joes and raisins. Yummy. I use Ina's recipes a lot and this was the first one that didn't work as written.

Cooking time is too long. After 30 minutes I took it out of the oven because it would've burned. Could've been a little sweeter. But adding the dried fruit probably added that extra needed sweetness. Good recipe otherwise.

I have made this several times, and we love it, so easy to make. I switch up the additions often and love it with yogurt, and fresh berries.

This came out to be excellent- I made it for my students to snack on before a big exam!
One thing I would change is the coooking time- I felt it roasted for a little too long- the mix was very dark; I also boiled some honey and threw it on after the mix had cooled for a little exrta sweetness!! Would make again!
