Even though I am a culinary school graduate gravy was something I never had a lot of practice making. But no practice need now that I have this recipe jewel. I omitted the cognac, since I didn't have any on hand. I am serving this with chicken fried steak and buttermilk biscuits for dinner tonight!

I did my first thanksgiving this year with my family AND my husband's family. Usually we do thanksgiving with my parents and their's an argument about the gravy - "You're not doing it right!" "'Add this!" My parents are both GREAT cooks and so te pressure was on! This gravy came out perfectly and made the argument go away - at least for one year!

    Hi Mary,
FYI - during the Holidays turkey stock is available in many stores. I usually pick up multiple boxes. It's amazing the good-quality and variety of stocks available nowadays. I can't wait to try this recipe along with the Roasted Turkey Breast on Christmas Day. Good luck Mary!

I made this easy recipe and it turned out great. I didn't have brandy so I used white wine instead. I also made my gravy after I did Ina's Turkey Breast so I put a little water in the bottom of the turkey roasting pan and got some of the yummy drippings and added that to the onions and it really added a great turkey flavor. Thanks Ina!

This is just amazing and made our Thanksgiving dinner! It is absolutely delicious. Follow the directions closely and you will love the end result. I think it could be adapted to prime rib if you substitute beef broth for chicken broth. The best!

I just served this gravy last night for Thanksgiving. People could not get enough! I ran out! I made it tonight, using beef broth and shallots and had the same results. This was so simple and the result was an empty an empty gravy boat and really happy dinner guests!

I also doubled this and found that I had to cook the onions much longer than the recipe said but it was worth the time. It was soooo tasty and complimented the herb roasted turkey perfectly.
