Once again Ina has given us a recipe that not only works but is a joy to make and eat! Easy, simple, tasty and perfect--cant make a mistake with this one. I made it for St. Patty's Day for all of my in laws, one loaf for each of three families and received rave reviews from all. I tweaked it slightly by using golden currants instead of plain ones. Was a little leery of buttermilk--no yeast, but never fear, Ina is here. Even my mother-in-law (who is ultra traditional loved it and the orange zest puts it over the top! Thnx Ina!

Terrific--it will make a soda bread lover of anyone. It also worked when i used half whole wheat flour.

I don't particularly even like Irish Soda Bread but this one is Great! My husband is a baker by trade and he suggested I brush the top with canola oil and sprinkle sugar on it. It does kick it up a notch. I also added just a little caraway seed....tradition... I will make this again!!!

I'm always in the market for a good quick bread recipe, and this one was great. Not too sweet, with a subtle orange flavor. It did take a little longer to cook than the recipe said -- closer to 60 minutes. This bread is very dense and moist. It did have a very thick crust on it -- maybe that's okay, or I may have incorporated too much flour when kneading the dough -- but I don't think it detracted from the taste. This is excellent when served warm with butter.

Very tasty! Everyone loved it for St Patrick's Day. Couldn't find currants at my grocery store so used dried cranberries and worked quite well, maybe even a bit sweeter than with currants? I really liked it slightly toasted with honey and makes great French toast the next morning. Easy to make, will definitely try it again.

This was a good bread and reminded me of my family's Irish soda bread, but it wasn't quite sweet enough for me. I did like using the currants more than regular raisins. I will make it again but add more sugar and butter. It was very easy and was actually my first home made bread!

Unbelievable! I didn't think this would be that exciting, but it was so delicious. Very easy to make. House smelled wonderful, kids loved it and husband was happy. Will make again and again. Warm with butter is the way to go my hank you, Ina!

Made this for St. Patrick's Day, and it was delicious! It was VERY wet when I "shaped" it into a loaf. I was a little worried, but it came out perfect!! So yummy. I will definitely make it again at any time of the year. I followed the recipe exactly and used the zest of one medium navel orange and used raisins instead of currants (not sure how big of a difference they are

I love Ina's recipes. This one is no different, everyone loved it.
I was concerned when my dough didn't come out sticky. Maybe
Because I made my buttermilk (lemon juice and milk . When I baked it
it took almost an hour . Next time I will divide the dough so it does not
take so long to bake. I Did use cranberries instead of currents and I added
Caraway seed. This recipe is very easy to follow.
