    EXCELLENT!
As others have said, this is not the traditional ISB, but it's soda bread and it's delicious.
The only modification for me was that I cut the dough in half so I could keep one and give the other to a neighbor.
It worked great and the recipient will be VERY happy.
I loved the hint of orange and will add even more zest next time.

Ina is a food GOD! My family members and I have all made Ina's recipes for years and they all taste great!!! We all have every book she writes and I recommend anyone who wants to eat great comfort food explained by a pro should do the same. I too use raisins instead of currents but no caraway seeds since most of my family and guests don't care for them especially the kids!!! This Irish bread toasted with butter and a cup of coffee is heaven for me in the morning! This is Irish soda bread, not "sweet Soda bread", its flavor and texture speaks for itself!
Thank you Ina for all the years you brought joy and smiles to my family and friends!!!

This recipe should not be called IRISH Soda Bread. While it is a tasty bread and it does have soda in it; it is missing the caraway seed typical of IRISH Soda Bread. This recipe should be called Sweet Soda Bread.

Missing caraway seeds. Taste good, but just not the same without the seeds. I love Ina as many of people I know do. Greatest Cook on TV! My daughter sent me one of Ina's cookbooks for my 71st birthday this year.

I love baking bread but sometimes don't have the time for rising and waiting. This recipe however is just as good (if not better than a risen bread. It's so easy, so quick and sooo tasty!! I prefer raisins than currents, so always add those iinstead. Grated orange rind added to the batter adds just the right amount of lightness to this recipe. Definitely one to make again and again, and not just for St. Patrick's Day.

I made a test loaf of this in hopes it would be good enough for St. Patty's Day and it will definitely be made again. It had a good texture, the currants were tasty and the texture was close to perfect (I like it a bit crumbly - which it got the next day. I will be making 5 of these for my party this year.

I guess if this is authentic Irish soda bread, then I just don't like authentic Irish soda bread. I found it bland and with a strange texture: too gritty to be cake and not chewy enough to be bread. I have half a dozen quick bread recipes that turn out a far better end product with less work (no stand mixer and floured surface to clean up afterwards and no kneading at all. I bake muffins and bread (both quick and yeast several times a week and won't bother with this one again.

Excellent! So good with the currants and zest. I didn't slit the top of mine deep enough so it took a long time for the inside to cook. I read on another site that you slit the top to allow it to cook the middle part - so true. My husband's from Dublin and he loved this bread! Super quick and easy!

For those that the dough was too sticky, I have found that if I use
low fat buttermilk you don't need as much. This could be the problem. Maybe on one of Ina's shows, buttermilk will be discussed.
