My husband loves them; my 3 year old can help make them.

I'm not sure what happened, but my dough was too hard (and crumbly to work with.

I too added the yolk to my dough. But I make the dough the night before and let it rest while I make breakfast the next day. Instead of moulding the dough into balls, I find refuge in my cookie scooper! It gives you uniform size, with out the stress on your fingers with the firm dough. I scoop out an entire cookie sheet first, and then I go back and form the scoops into balls, dip into wash and then into the coconut, and imprint my thumb into their space on the cookie sheet. My boys are allergic to everything that has nuts or related to nuts, so I use crumpled corn flakes or crushed rice krispies to coat the cookies. I do use orange, lemon, lime or other flavours to enhance the choice of jam that I will be using. To make an extra treat;put about a dozen finished cookies into the freezer for 1 hour, take 1 cup of bitter sweet chocolate chips and 2 tbls of shortening, melt in a double boiler, and then dunk the whole cookie into the mix using a fork to scoop them out and let them drain a little before placing on wax paper. Since my boys can't eat any store bought candy, I have found that this dough makes a wonderful base to make homemade candy bars! I roll the dough flat to cut candy bar size rectangle cookies and bake them. I then lined them up side by side and end to end and and spread homemade carmel sauce on top and let cool, and then I pour mealted marshmallows on top of that. Once they are completely cooled in the refrigerator, I use a hot knife to cut out the individual candy bars and dunk them into milk or semi sweet chocolate. Homemade candy bars! My kids and their friends love them and their parents are asking for me to make them for their families! Thank you Ina for a wonderful, and very useful recipe!

Another grand slam by Ina! II have made thumb print cookies before but they didn't taste half as wonderful as these! I don't usually care for coconut but these little cookies are to die for! For those comments who say the dough was crumbly, keep your kitchen aide mixer going until it clumps together, which isn't long. This is new must-have holiday cookie in my home! Merry Christmas!

I love maikng these. I always have to make a coconut-free batch for my cousin since the poor thing is allergic to coconut and we want him to be able to enjoy these treats with us :-

I had made these cookies for my daughters party at school they were selling them to make money....first off the dough was too hard to work with it was too crumbly...and then it was a huge work out on your hands trying to mold them into balls....then pressing the thumprint in the middle made the cookie fall apart....I am very dissappointed in this recipe....I will stick to my Hungarian grandmothers recipe from now on....Have A Blessed Christmas....

I started making this cookie when I first saw the episode air, probably going on 4 years, and each year friends and family anxiously anticipate their arrival. They are so rich, I only tend to roll them out for the holidays. After reading some reviews I wanted to add my 2 cents regarding crumbly dough. Everytime I make these the dough does something different, so I appreciate the tip on adding an egg yolk to soften. I added a little water to the dough recently when it was crumbly and it worked out well. I have never had an issue with burning bottoms, but I have always used a cookie stone which I think helps keep the heat even. These are totally worth the effort and don't last long in our house!

I LOVE making these cookies..not only is it a fun recipe but these are a huge hit. I stack several in a cello bag just like Ina did on her show and take them places and they are so delectable that people will ration them out. Thank you Ina..this is a winner!

I made these for the first time in 2007 during the holiday party season and my friends loved them. One person took a half dozen home with her and put them in the freezer so she could ration them out (to herself! for a few weeks. Yes, they do freeze very well and she reported back that I need to make a double batch this year for her party! Thanks Ina! These were a hit.

I've been making these Jam Thumprints for 4 yrs now and every year I get nothing but rave reviews. The recipe works perfect if you follow Ina's direction and use good ingredients. My friends and family can't wait for me to send them their batch of fresh baked cookies at Christmas time. Thanks Ina.
