These cookies are simply fabulous. Good ingredients. Easy directions,a beautiful presentaion and a taste that leaves you wanting more. I have been scooping the dough out with a small icecream scoop which makes them all uniform and beautiful. Yet another great one Ms. Garten. All my friends know "I want to be just like the barefoot contess when 'I grow up!'"

I made these as homemade Christmas gifts and I thought they were bland. Disappointing because they're very pretty cookies. I won't make them anymore. Just thought I'd share.

I always bake my favorite cookies around the holidays then add a few new ones in the mix. Usually the new ones are disappointing. But this one was great! The appearance is very elegant and the taste was light and buttery. I made them with raspberry and apricot preserves. I wrapped them up as thank you gifts for a committee I was chairing and everyone loved them!
To all the people with the burned coconut....I personally never go by the times on recipes. After the first 10 minutes I check them after every 1-2 minutes. The first batch I made were a little dry and crumbly - but the second batch I let mix in the mixer a little longer and they were better...practice makes perfect!

I have made other thumbprint cookies but never loved them until this one. The cookies have a rich,moist, buttery flavor and I really liked how the coconut made them a little chewy. Plus they look pretty and they're easy. Definitely a keeper.
