I've made these twice in the last two weeks. They are fantastic. The first time i made them, I tried to cheat and softened the butter in the microwave. The dough was crumbly and really hard to smash (I literally had to smash them into form into cookie form. I had followed the recipe to a T, other than the room temp butter.
I read more reviews before making them the second time. One person was very adament about using room temperature butter. She (or he was totally right! I made them a couple hours ago. I let the butter sit on the counter overnight so it really was room temperature. The dough was SOOOOOO easy to combine. It wasn't at all crumbly or mealy. I also put the "disk" in the freezer for about an hour. Then I let sit on the counter for about 45 minutes before forming the cookies. They came out perfect.

I have a few recipes that I know will come out perfect everytime n this is one of them. I give these as gifts if my family doesn't raid them first. If your dough is not setting up properly or too crumbly the temperature of the butter is important n how long you cream them together.

These were great! I too had problems with the dough "coming together" though. As I formed the balls, I dipped my fingers in water as necessary to get it to form a ball. This helped. I was worried they wouldn't turn out right but they were delicious. Definitely a make again. I did find I needed more coconut.

I made these 5 years ago. They never lasted long enough to take to work which was the original intention of making them.
So easy to make and they taste so great. Never had a problem with the recipe itself, and have used different jams and they taste good no matter what kind of jam I use.
Make these every year for the Holidays.

I had problems with the dough coming together...it was too dry. I had to add a tbsp of water or so and then it was a bit sticky and still didn't come together great.

The final result came out okay but I feel like I'm eating a stick of butter. Way too rich for me. Don't think I'll make them again next year.

If you make this cookie exactly as the recipe states, you won't have any problem---it's my favorite cookie for Christmas. Can it be crumbly? Yes-there are no eggs in this recipe, it's a shortbread.
    Use REALcookie sheets, please.
DON'T add any liquid to the dough, I can't imagine what these other "bakers" are thinking.

My friends call these Luscious Lilly Cookies, because my nickname is Lilly. I give these as party favors at all my parties or I take them as hostess gifts. I package them in cellophane bags tied with pretty ribbon or in boxes with pretty tissue paper and tied with ribbon. They make such an elegant and beautiful gift.
I follow the recipe completely and they turn out great every time.

I make a variety of cookies for Christmas and decided to try this, as there were so many good reviews. Everything was a waste. My dough never "came together". I don't know what I did wrong. All of my other cookies turned out awesome. Can't say I recommend this recipe.
