I have made this dish twice now and it tastes wonderful. The second time I made it, I added a few ingredients that I think worked well w/ this recipe. I sauteed two small, finely minced onions with two garlic cloves, also finely minced then added 8 oz of chopped baby portabella mushrooms. I removed the sauteed veggies from the pot and made the cheese sauce in the same pan, giving it a nice mushroomy flavor as well. I then added the sauteed veggies back when I added the lobster and macaroni. Instead of using regular gruyere cheese, I substituted 12 oz. smoked gruyere. I added 1/2 cup of grated parmesian cheese to the bread crumbs, then baked as directed. The results were amazing!!!!!! I hope Ina doesn't mind that I experimented w/ her recipe, but I will definately make this recipe again.

Let me first start off by saying I followed the recipe precisely. For those that don't and submit a less than stellar review, it's not helpful to those that want to make this dish. My meal was absolutely delicious. I made this for New Year's Eve and it turned out fantastic. The seasonings were spot on, the lobster was juicy and the pasta was not mushy with plenty of sauce to go around. The bread crumbs added the right texture to top off the rich taste of the entire dish. I would highly recommend this recipe to anyone, but don't mess with the chemistry of the ingredients, use what Ina used and you will have a fabulous meal that everyone will enjoy!

This recipe for Lobster Mac and Cheese. The nutmeg gives it a nice kick to the recipe. I realize I can make it with chicken and it will still take great. Also I did this recipe without the lobster and it was still great.. Thank you Ida.. My family loved this mac and cheese recipe. =

I made this for Christmas Eve Dinner, as a side dish. It tasted divine-- so rich and creamy, and the nutmeg added a delicious touch! A very elegant version of Mac & cheese, indeed. Ina is simply the best!

I made this for Christmas Eve along with a Prime Rib roast (I decided to splurge. It was a great way to have surf & turf plus the starch for the meal. My meal was a ridiculously outrageous hit!!! It was a true celebration. My family went nuts. I come from a large Italian family and food is at the center of the celebration. They loved dinner so much that they are all willing to chip – in so we can have the same meal next year!!! Thanks! Thank you for all of your cooking tips and a terrific show.

ALL KINDS of yummy! I wasn't able to find lobster at my local po-dunk grocery store, so I used some of that crab substitute instead. If its this good with the fake crab (some kind of white fish, I just can't imagine how much better it would be with lobster. I will be passing this recipe on over and over!!

This was terrific. I am a big fan of The Neelys' recipes but this Lobster Mac & Cheese is way better than theirs. Sorry. Everyone loved it. Definitly a recipe to pass down to your children.

I have wanted to make this FOREVER...just didn't have the $$$. Today I acquiesced. It was delicious (and expensive! I made only 1/2 of the recipe for my hubby and 2 kids; we still had leftovers. To cut costs I purchased a cooked-while-you-wait whole lobster. The 1 1/2 lb. beast yielded a little more than 1 generous cup of meat; less than the recipe called for. Taking a hint from other reviews, I was careful to cut my lobster into bit-sized chunks so it wounldn't 'disappear.' It worked well. The combination of the gruyere and cheddar somehow proved so delicate and really provided a wonderful background that supported the star--lobster. Even though I salted my pasta water well, I felt the dish did need a little more salt. Other than this, the seasoning was fine.

I would definitely make this again, but only for a special occasion. Perfect for New Years or Valentines day. Also, while we had a fume blanc with the meal...it screamed for a wonderful champagne.
