I had gotten a similar recipe and Ina's from Better Homes and Garden -- the key is fresh lemon juice -- the sour mix does not taste anywhere near fresh lemons -- second we use the same amount of simple syrup as the lemon juice and it makes a perfect long island -- if you only want to make one (I don't know who would but it is a half oz of each of the liquors to 1oz of fresh lemon juice and 1 oz of simple syrup -- we add coke or diet coke to taste -- I like more coke than others but add that at the end -- if you are making a batch for guest -- add the coke once you are ready to serve right in the guest's glasses -- do not put the coke in until the end. Hope it helps

1/2 of a teaspoon? Is that right? I would think it calls for about 1/2 of a cup.

    Anyone?

Just like mom made on those hot California days.

Very potent but cooling on a hot summer day. Use a designated driver after two.

OK, I did substitute "sour mix" for the lemon juice and Triple Sec for the Cointreau, and I remember on the show she specifically said 1/4 C each of the booze, etc (and a jigger is 1/2 oz less than that...but it came out tasting almost smoky & not at all like the Long Islnds you get in a bar...DANG if I can't find a way to make these just as good at home??!!
