To die for! Been trying lots of different Mac n Cheese recipes in the past and so far this is the best one! I didn't have gruyere so I used parmesan instead and it was still soo good. Thanks Ina!

Awesome! Since I do not care for a really cheddary mac & cheese, I went with this recipe. Gruyere is somewhat expensive, so I ended supplementing with swiss (2:1 Gruyere to swiss ratio, with great results. I never would have thought to add tomatoes to mac & cheese, but it ended up as a nice touch for both taste and presentation. I highly recommend this dish!

Surprised that anyone had a negative review! I omit the tomatoes and do everything else and people rave about it whenever I serve it. Fabulous!!!

This was my first ever attempt at mac and cheese and it was delicious!! very straight forward and the breadcrumbs added a nice crunchy topping.. Thanks Ina!

Way too many bread crumbs! The gruyere was overpowering (and expensive and there is no way this would fit in a 3 quart casserole!

    Bomb.

I think Ina is one of the most consistently good cooks on the Food Network. Nonetheless, I found that this recipe as written is utterly tasteless. My husband had to hold me back from throwing it in the garbage.

It badly needs tweaking. Taste the pasta right before you put it in the pan. I added lots of worchestire sauce, paprika, and a little cayenne. It just didn't work. Not worth the calories.

First of all, I'm in college. I NEVER cook. My room mates had a meet and greet dinner thing so I thought mac and cheese would be easy- this was super easy. Not only that, it was so amazingly tasty! I couldn't find the gruyere cheese so I used some smokey somethin somethin. My room mates demanded an encore

This was so-so for me. I felt the use of Gruyere and Sharp Cheddar made the dish dryer in texture and flavor. Monterey Jack or Colby would have given this dish a silkier taste and texture. I did not bake it either. Glad I didn't. Have done much better than this recipe.

Delicious!! I made this for a Labor Day party since we had so many kids attending... I left the tomatoes out just because I know some of the kids don't like them. I was concerned that the flavor would be too grown up - but all of the kids, and all of the adults, LOVED it. I doubled the recipe and split it into two 9x13 pans. When I was adding the nutmeg I did wonder if it was too much - but the final product was perfect.
