Very easy and very good. I added a horseradish cheddar to give it a little kick. The bread crumbs on the top burned a bit, I think next time I might add them half way into cook time.

Love this recipe because it is easy and so adaptable. My boys are becoming more adventurous eaters but I thought the Gruyere and tomatoes might turn them off so subbed some of the Gruyere and Cheddar with Moz as others had suggested. Also used panko bread crumbs that I had on hand. Put tomato on half of the dish and it was delicious!!!! Can't wait to make it again!!!

This mac and cheese was delicious. It makes a ton of mac and cheese though. I cut the recipe in 1/4 as it was for 2 people, and we still had lots leftover. I omitted the tomatoes and only used about 1/2 cup of bread crumbs with 2 tbs melted butter.

To die for! Been trying lots of different Mac n Cheese recipes in the past and so far this is the best one! I didn't have gruyere so I used parmesan instead and it was still soo good. Thanks Ina!

Awesome! Since I do not care for a really cheddary mac & cheese, I went with this recipe. Gruyere is somewhat expensive, so I ended supplementing with swiss (2:1 Gruyere to swiss ratio, with great results. I never would have thought to add tomatoes to mac & cheese, but it ended up as a nice touch for both taste and presentation. I highly recommend this dish!

Surprised that anyone had a negative review! I omit the tomatoes and do everything else and people rave about it whenever I serve it. Fabulous!!!

Way too many bread crumbs! The gruyere was overpowering (and expensive and there is no way this would fit in a 3 quart casserole!

    Bomb.
