The taste is very creamy and cheesey which my family loves.

This is an excellent recipe for baked mac and cheese. I get rave reviews every time. I can use this as a base and switch out different cheeses or pastas. I also add a few dashes of hot sauce and worshtershire for an extra kick. I left out the tomatoes for a more classic taste.

I really must say that I found this recipe to be on the bland side. I have always loved Ina's recipes but this just didn't do it. I added some cayenne pepper but it still didn't impress me or my husband.
Sorry....

Great recipe. A little pricey, but well worth it.

I didn't care for the texture of the cheese for this dish. I would exclude the flour.

I've been preparing mac 'n cheese for 40 years using various recipes and Ina's is simple the best I've ever had. My family is in total agreement with me.

after reviewing many food network recipes for mac & cheese on line, i decided on this one for its ease and flavor of cheeses. i made it easily the night before, and popped it in the oven 45 min before we were ready to eat.
i was entertaining a variety of guests (ages and palates and they all loved it. my sister called it "gourmet".
next time i will under-cook the cavatappi by a few minutes; it was a little too soggy for my taste.

I actualy used this recipe from her book, I own all three, and we loved it. I don't know how it is on it's own, because we had a hit of white vermouth, a dry white wine, when making the sauce, which probably adds a lot of flavor. THe parmesan and pine nuts are a must
