We really like this! I omit the tomatoes and use swiss instead of gruyere because of the cost.

I have been thinking of trying this recipe, however one family member does not like tomatoes. Do you think it would be okay to eliminate the tomatoes entirely?

I have been trying out different mac and cheese recipes for a couple of years. This is the best tasting one that I have found so far. Like others mentioned, the gruyere was pretty pricey (about $11 for the amt the recipe calls for. I personally love the taste of extra-sharp cheddar and I think next time I will increase the cheddar and decrease the gruyere. I really liked the tomatoes on top, too. My husband even liked this recipe, and he usually doesn't like mac and cheese.

I used this recipe for Easter and used mozzarella instead of gruyere. Very good. So good I'm using it for Thanksgiving. Everyone will love it!

Love it and my very picky daughter loves it! I added broccoli and we had it as an entree rather than a side.

I BASICALLY FOLLOWED THE RECIPE BUT INSTEAD OF PUTTING THE TOMATOES ON TOP i ADDED A LARGE CAN OF PETITE DICED TOMATOES TO THE MIXTURE. i ALSO USED FOUR CUPS OF SHARP CHEDDAR AND TWO OF MILD CHEDDAR. THE PROCESS FOR MAKING THE CHEESE SAUCE IS RIGHT ON. IT COMES OUT PERFECTLY. AND, INSTEAD OF USING PLAIN BREAD CRUMBS I CRUSHED PARMESAN GARLIC CROUTONS IN THE FOOD PROCESSOR. EVERYONE LOVED IT!!
