Ina's recipes are the absolute best. Everytime I use any of her recipes it is a HIT. Made this for christmas for my family and it vanished. The recipe makes a HUGE portion though...I fed 10 people on Christmas and had leftovers. SO for regular dinner you should prbably cut in half...
Barefoot Contessa rocks!

This was a very simple side dish. My shallots never became crispy, but I'm pretty sure I should have fried them even longer than the designated time. They tasted fine just the same, and I'd recommend this recipe to others.

This was a terrific recipe that I served for Thanksgiving dinner. It was easy, and everybody loved it.
Note: I did not need to use as much milk or butter as stated, and it was still fabulous.

I'm not a turnip eater but I made this for Thanksgiving for our guests and it was a big hit! I burnt the first batch of shallots because I got impatient and turned up the heat so have patience and follow directions and you will be completely satisfied!

And I wasn't really a turnip fan. To the reviewer who thinks cooking the shallots that long is a misprint - it's not, it should take about 30-40 minutes to crisp shallots over low heat (have you ever carmelized onions before? It takes awhile. Ina says on her show it takes about 35 minutes. Did you even attempt the recipe before making (inaccurate suggestions?

Turnips are a favorite vegetable of mine. And I loved making this recipe. However, if there are people who have never dealt with a turnip I must warn you. It is not only a difficult vegetable to peel but it is a pain to chop it. The turnip is very hard and your really need a sharp knife to do it. I don't try to cut it in half but to cut off chunks off it starting at one end. Other than that it is great and also good if cooked with regular potatoes and mashed together.

Though time consuming, this simple recipe tasted so good. It tasted so buttery..I never appreciated how good turnips could taste and the fried shallots were a great balance. Will make it again and again!

Made these for Thanksgiving and they were awesome! Great for Atkins dieters and WAY better than mashed cauliflower. Would definitely recommend and make again!

Wow!!! This is a wonderful side. I hated turnips when my mom used to cook them, but these are fantastic. Awesome job, Ina! Keep those great recipes coming.
