I made these mini cakes one hour ago and they are WONDERFUL!!!! they are like little gems you don't even want to eat!!! even my hubby LOVED them and he's not a big fan of sweets. I did not have buttermilk on hand so I mixed milk with vinegar and let it sit for one hour. I did omit the syrup and ganache and still they were out of this world, in my personal opinion the chocolate chips are enough to satisfy your chocolate requirement, I didn't need more. These mini cakes are sooo moist and tender, you have to try them!!!! Thank you very much Ina!!!!

This recipe is delicious! I didn't have the fancy mold, so I just used a cupcake pan. The batter filled 12 cupcakes perfectly. Mine rose a little more than it did in the show, but the cake itself was so moist and perfect even without the orange simple syrup. Definitely use the simple syrup though it added a nice sweetness to the cake. In the show Ina made a little more ganache, but I found the recipe amount was perfect and didn't have leftovers like a some of the other recipes. I wasn't sure if I would like the orange and chocolate combination, but the cakes looked too good for me not to try them. I'm really glad I did! Great recipe!

This is a great recipe and I've had success with it every time. One suggestion though. Many of the posters here said they couldn't taste the orange. That, no doubt, is due to the oranges you squeezed for juice. Sometimes they just don't have a lot of flavor. Taste your batter before you cook it. If you can't taste the orange, put in a 1/2 teaspoon of orange extract. I also do not use the syrup. I put a tsp of extract in the ganache. Perfection every time.

Didn't change a thing, except baked them in a 12-muffin pan. The batter fit the 12 muffin cups perfectly and it was just the right size for a dessert portion...frankly I can't imagine eating a bigger portion. (In response to MN Girl's comment, I thought the orange flavor came through fine without overpowering. I imagine these will also freeze nicely. Another Ina hit!

What the heck am I missing? I could barely taste the orange and that was a HUGE bummer.

This cake turned out extremely delicious. It got rave reviews from my man friend and nephew, who both have a very gourmet taste especially when it comes to desserts. If you like baking cakes, chocolate, entertaining, and serving warm, fresh desserts, bookmark this recipe. You will not be disappointed. Thank you Ina.
